Not able to change address for customer

I found out yesterday that we are now not able to manually change addresses for customers to print up a label for a satchel.   I ended up contacting Ebay and their reason is because of fraud.  Honestly how many people would go to the trouble of getting into someones account then, trying to have an item sent to a different address?  So its puts us in the position now of having prepaid Australia Post satchels on hand to manually write out and post that way.  Also if someone wants something sent as a gift to a different address the same thing, have prepaid satchels.

The buyer should be changing the address when they go through checkout in Paypal, if they don't and you send to a different address you have no seller protection, so eBay is correct in saying it could be fraud.

Yes I unerstand this now however there are genuine one off cases.  Like I said what if they wanted it as a gift sent to a friend or family member.  I suppose the best thing to do is email them back and confirm that it is them and genuine.

Maybe use the Australia Post label option?     If you have an ebay satchel instead of a aust post satchel (not the prepaid ones) I am sure that Australia Post don't care.

Then you can put it any address you like.

But you do run the risk of not being covered either by paypal or ebay.

A more fiddly way is to talk to your buyer about refunding the money to them, so that they can send the money again with the correct address they want.     But some buyers resent this.

That still won't cover you for an INR dispute, the best way is to cancel the sale using the "problem with address" excuse, then they can purchase again making sure they change the destination during checkout. Just explain to them that you cannot send to an address different to their Paypal address before cancelling.

Or of course taking a chance that the sale will go smoothly and send to the address they want you to........

I would also be looking at their feedback left for sellers and see if there has been any problems previously with INR's or INAD's.

EDIT. Snap curra.

If they want it sent as a gift to someone else it's up to them to put the friend's name and address in when they go through checkout.  If they don't do that it's up to them to forward it on when they receive it.

I wouldn't refund and ask them to buy again because you'll lose the paypal fees.  If people learn that they have to fix/pay for their own mistakes they may learn to be more careful in future.

Exactly! I had a buyer who wanted the book as a gift, supplied the friend's address in PayPay.
The only request was not to put in an invoice or similar paperwork.

All good.
It really is up to the buyer to put the correct address in with any relevant requests as the purchase is a gift.

Ooh I would never send to a different address to the one on the invoice. You may be sailing along issue free but one day you will regret trusting buyers on their 'word'

I do it often.

When they put city instead of their suburb.

When they use the wrong postcode.

When they misspell their street or suburb.

I would have to have quite a few hit the fan before I went close to losing what I would lose in Paypal fees if I cancelled all of those.

And here I thought reading was 'self-educating', as well as pleasure

And people don't even know where they live?

It's a sad world when people never learn.
