Just how much personal information does paypal think it can demand ? Yes, we had a verified account, Buyer pays for item via paypal when item description specificly states cash on pick up only (after all it weighs 200 kgs). Paypal then freezes account and demands we 'ship' the item to the buyer !!!!! We dont have access to buyers funds as paypal has frozen the entire account. Paypal has buyers money, but PP request more identification from us. Paypal has Bank details, Passsport, Drivers Licence, Medicare details and a full local government rates notice and they STATE THAT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH !!! They want social security details (which we dont have ) oh and full ATO taxation details and tax returns (which is no benefit to them as ATO will not confirm details with outside parties like Paypal due to our privacy laws) starting to think Paypal has crooks just collecting personal id) for some nefarious purpose. Interesting that we have a verified paypal account and the buyer is un-verified ! When is someone in this country going to start taking a good look into paypals practices ?

You also need to email this organisation, that is the list of their contacts, http://www.privacy.org.au/About/Contacts.html

Try this one and see how you go - tell Paypal and or Ebay that the Dept of Fair Trading will gladly contact them to sort out problems like this! You may even care to mention the Ombudsman - A Current Affair - and maybe your local MP!! good luck in all this stupidity

Maybe you should have read the entire thread before commenting, then you would know that the Ombudsman is already involved. Fair Trading don't want to know, nor does the ACCC.
There has been mention in other threads regarding going to ACA, but I'm not sure if that has eventuated for anyone yet.

Once the buyer has the goods, it is no longer their money, it is the sellers money!

The broader the awareness of any unacceptable practice such as this the better. Just because departments or authorities do not act publicly does not by any means mean they are not monitoring issues or doing behind the scenes investigation.
