PayPal holding non eBay funds

Ok we are now all well aware of the new eBay policies holding money in PayPal accounts.

And yes it is enough to make a grown man cry.

As I have said previously I now also have non eBay money being held by PayPal.

Amongst all my searching I checked in on some of the international fourms in the UK & USA and this appears to be happening world wide (no surprise there).

Of note with non eBay monies the monies are not automatically released after 21 days if you are a new seller or one with an intermittent history of regular use.

After 21 days many are saying they have had to request their money from PayPal often taking upto 30 days to release (note if you do not ask it does not get released)

And if you are not a regular user (such as me) you may have to go through this process every time if there are long periods between use (such as me). I've been with PayPal about 10 years?

I am only going off anecdotal reports from other forums but they all seem to be supporting similar issues.

I got non eBay payments in PayPal in recent days in USD and hold, next day paid in Euros (Finland) and no hold, next day USD and hold, next day in USD (from Hong Kong) and no hold etc etc. There is no apparent continuity.

I am now asking my non eBay buyers to use my direct deposit BSB, Luckily I am selling on a specialist enthusiast forum in the USA where we are a tight world wide community.

Luckily this is only a hobby for me and not putting food on the table but it has destroyed my discretionary spending for this Christmas.

Anyother non eBay holds happening with Australian sellers or money transfers?

I am awaiting yet another response from PayPal but not holding my breath.

The interesting part is that on other threads, treasuress.4207 was told that it was a PP policy not eBay,  eBay say no it is PP.

The holding of funds for non eBay transactions clearly shows this to be a PayPal policy.

So the finger has to be firmly pointed at PayPal - even though eBay are in kahoots regarding transactions on eBay.

The way things are going, it's not only eBay who are going to disappear, but PayPal will as well.

IMO there is something that has a real ratty smell, as PayPal are being set loose by eBay,  but eBay joins hands with PP in holding your money, then PP holds your money for something not sold on eBay.

Not sure yet as to what is really going on, but it ain't good.

As far as I'm aware it's only ebay payments.

PayPal once held money and / or restricted access to my PayPal money because I sent some money to someone in the US that was firearm related but not a firearm but it had a name in the title that they took to be a firearm.

Did the carp hit the fan from my end. I think I threatened getting the police involved. They released the restrictions on the account.

HBH - that policy is totally about Paypal holding funds for eBay transactions.  It mentions nothing about other sites.

Have you actually tried speaking to someone from Paypal?  Would be very interested in what they had to say and what policy they could please point you to.

Certainly have spoken with PayPal and here is there official reply:

Quote from their written response:

This is a common industry practice that we implement to help ensure a safe environment for both buyers and sellers. This helps ensure that there is money in your account to resolve any problems with your orders, if they arise.

The money still belongs to you. Itโ€™s just unavailable for withdrawal temporarily until we are certain that your buyers received the item they ordered in the condition promised or advertised.

Typically, you can access these payments in 21 days or even sooner if you follow good shipping practices. To help get your funds faster, please note the following:

  • If you provide tracking information and we can confirm delivery, your payment should be available 3 days after delivery.
  • If you donโ€™t upload tracking, but mark the item as shipped in โ€˜My eBayโ€™, your payment should be available 7 days after your latest estimated delivery date.
  • If you fulfill the order, but donโ€™t provide any shipping information, your payment should be available after 21 days, as long as your buyer doesnโ€™t report a problem with the transaction.

You can upload the tracking number on PayPal following the steps below.

  1. Go to www.paypal.com.au and log in to your account.
  2. Click โ€˜Historyโ€™ near the top of the page.
  3. Find the relevant transaction.
  4. Click โ€˜Details.โ€™
  5. Click โ€˜Add Tracking Infoโ€™ under โ€˜Postageโ€™ near the bottom of the page.
  6. Complete the required information on the โ€˜Enter Tracking Information and Order Statusโ€™ page.
  7. Click โ€˜Save.โ€™

Now please note even with non eBay funds they still require you to mark the item shipped in "My eBay" and also to marked as shipped in your PayPal link. Go figure!!!!

I tried to mark the non eBay sale in PayPal as sent but would not let me enter shipped by Australia Post Air Mail.

Once again it has to have tracking or you will be waiting your 21 days minimum.

For those of you who doubt PayPal are doing this to non eBay funds I assure you they are.

I have not had any more response from PayPal and money is still being held.

exactly. If it was holding funds for other sites it would say so in their terms? (from that link) Funds from my site are not being held and I haven't heard of anyone elses being held either.
