RIP Buyer remorse.

From November 1st 'Buyer remorse' as a reason for return will all but cease to exist.

Option A. Pay to return a 'change of mind' for an item cost refund only or

Option B. Get out a microscope, find something significant ( under high magnification )

and have the seller pay everything back AND pay for your return 'online trackable' postage.

I feel sorry for people selling wedding dresses, whether they be new or second hand. Buyer buys the dress for their wedding, has their wedding, no longer has a use for the dress, so demands a refund. Try and tell me people won't try and pull that stunt, especially if they pay a lot for it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

When I was young, I used to work part time in a clothing store and sometimes there would be women who came in with outfits they had bought the previous week and you could tell they had been worn.

In one case, the woman had even taken up the hem of the evening gown and there were big sweat stains under the arms.

Yet she expected all her money back.

It was a small private business, most times the boss gave the benefit of the doubt and refunded, sometimes he didn't. He didn't that time and I didn't blame him.

I think it is unreasonable to buy something eg second hand, and expect a 6 month warranty on it. I don't think you even get that with second hand cars, let alone a second hand dress or a bike or whatever else people buy. What if you sold a second hand item in good working order and it broke down 5 months down the track? What if someone wore a second hand frock for months then it got a small hole?

I came on the boards here mainly to get a feel for how ebay had changed since I used to sell a decade ago (under a different name), and how things worked now, but I don't think I will be returning as a seller. My sister and I were always honest, gave a detailed description, were fair to people if there was a problem, but generally speaking, once an item was sold, that was pretty well the end of it.

Wouldn't want to have sale money 'pending' for 6 months.

I'll try selling elsewhere, i think.Woman Happy

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

Unfortunately there is no other site that has as much traffic - and thus potential buyers - as ebay.

However, quicksales is looking to be the best alternative at the moment (unless it's for pickup items where gumtree may be the better bet). Trouble is, there is hardly any buyer traffic on QS. They really need to get their name out there and advertise.

------------------------------------------------------

You're right, they should.

I hadn't heard about them till i visited these boards, saw it mentioned and guessed what QS must stand for and went and had a look.

I now have a couple of items listed for sale with them & gumtree, but I am finding gumtree is having more clicks to view.

On the other hand, I have bought off both sites in the last week, with happy results. I figure if there isn't as much traffic, the sellers might be keener.Woman Happy

I suspect ebay wants small sellers to move over to QS and gumtree anyway and as a buyer, I am going the same way, not for everything, but for a fair bit.

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

Springy, I think that still goes on now, even more than ever. You sometimes see girls out for a night on the town, with a tag hanging out the back of their dress. Not all of them could have forgotten to remove the tag.

My step daughter knows people who will 'buy' a dress for a night out, leave the tag on, then take it back Monday for a change of mind refund, or because it 'didn't fit'. They are the type of people who can only ever wear something once. Won't be seen dead in the same outfit twice. Some will even do it with shoes too. They'll wear old shoes until they arrive, then change into the new ones when they walk in. Having carpet on the floors stops the bottoms from scuffing.

I think it's even easier now that venues are all non smoking inside. Back when I was young, it would have been much harder to return a worn dress because everything stank of smoke.

I was at a wedding years ago and a lady at my table was wearing a VERY expensive high end dress. A few of us commented on how lovely it was and how good she looked in it. Someone said that it must have cost her a pretty penny. She said it did, but when she takes it back on Monday for a refund, it won't have cost her a cent. She couldn't understand after that why everyone else at the table stopped talking to her.

I wonder how these types of people get on if they spill something on the outfit they were planning on returning?

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

eBay has traffic but only if they decide you can be part of it.That is one thing that many of you left selling here may find out,but i hope for your sake that you don't.

It is one thing to have over 400 sales per year & be on monthly seller evaluations.Yes if you have enough sales fb you might push through the defect percent. However,if eBay decide to black you out & hide your listings, then you don't have much chance of coming back from that. It's meant to be that 2% defect rate will put you at Above Standard.I'm at 1.73% still TRS but my sales have gone from 95% sell rate with the usual say 50 views for most items,to well under 50% sell rate with a handfull of views. The last defect that threw me under the bus was a seller who gave me good comms but low DSR.Seems many sellers are freaking out & thinking if they cull /defect others in their category with low DSR that they will be left alone Cat Frustrated

eBay has traffic if it decides that it will allow you to play in it.You may get run over or you may survive. It's all a game of chance run by fools.I don't give a rats after the end of this month.I hate eBay for doing that dirty thing without buying me dinner first.

Protest is futile so i will vote with my $ going elsewhere.eBay is a joke & no-one is laughing except shareholders.

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

The fact that buyers don't have to deal with sellers here for refund face to face makes it so much easier for some to take advantage of this money back **bleep**. eBay or paypal do all the dirty work for them.  all ebay is going to end up with is a site full of scammers willing to rip sellers off big time and as we all know ebay will always protect the buyer. im sure as hell not going to put all my hard work taking photos listing paying huge fees to sell little and to be ripped off big. anybody that thinks ebay will be still a better place to sell is only kidding themselves . QS has been a positive for me  my first month there netted 28 sales with a very happy results all items paid and happy feedack recived. the past month has been not as good with 3 sales but i would rather 3 sales there with no fees and more freedom to sell as the way i wish to sell. than a dozen sales here with 9.9% going to ebay in fees. i use facebook to promote my items by joining groups that involve around my items which are diecast models maybe giving me an edge as i post my qs link and ive had my sales manily though the links

Wardrobers are my intense dislike.

How about a large tag that says

I think wardrobers
are congealed scum.
( refund may be denied if this label has been removed )

How many would continue to 'proudly'
wear clothing with the tag showing.

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

I'm sure ebay won't mind if we move to Gumtree. I think i read somewhere that Gumtree is owned by Ebay.

Yes, ebay own Gumtree.

QS is just about the only major site that ebay doesn't own ( yet ).

Re: RIP Buyer remorse.

yes gumtree is owned by ebay.

Quicksales has boomed and died. When it first started (then Oztion in 2005) it was a good site. it was good until about 2008 when it was sold to jumbuck entertainment. Owners who did no advertising and customer service went downhill big time too. Then it was resold again in 2010 to carsales another name change but still no advertising, no customer service, no traffic. I'm afraid it's glory days have been and gone!!
