Refund necessary for size issues?

Hi all,

despite my listings stating that I don't refund for size issues (admittedly this is noted in amongst a lot of "small print") I have had increasing numbers of buyers requesting refunds when they "don't like" items or they don't fit - I do provide measurements.

I am nervous about refusing to refund as I want to provide exemplary service & am a little in fear of negative feedback.

What's the right / best thing to do in the circumstances. I have been refunding of late but the time taken with that process, relisting etc is not really worth it.

Advice from the gurus?

I got a neutral a few months ago and a low star for postage price recently.

Does that count?

I seriously doubt you sell anything that would amount to a real income.

I think it's better to be aware that feedback can affect a seller's reputation, but it's more important not to let feedback, or the feedback a buyer may or may not leave, be a primary factor in a seller's decision-making process, otherwise you're giving too much power to something that's ultimately not even in your control.

In any circumstance, I do what I think is right, not what I think the buyer wants me to do so they won't neg me... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Your responses speak volumes.  You are obviously a hobby seller at best, most probably primarily a buyer.  However, the anonymous nature of these forums allow you to live in your dream world

I think u are the main one using an anonymous account more than anyone here. With zero feedback and only on the boards for what a month and a bit. If u want to put people down and talk such rubbish at least use your real username then maybe your comments would be taken seriously

Refund necessary for size issues?

As a mostly buyer I have bought many clothing items on here. Even if a seller doesn't write it on there listing I know unless I am buying a style and brand I know I am taking a chance.
There have been a few times that I have got it wrong so I just resold the item. Yes I lost a little but it's my own fault.
I think that if u let people have refunds they need to pay postage costs to return and u should take postage off the item that it cost u to send it.-Belinda

Same here.

Of course if you buy something on line, it may not fit. It's a bit of a risk. I've had a few things that weren't right but I would never have dreamt of asking for a refund, it wasn't the seller's fault!

If an item was second hand and had stretched or shrunk a lot from the size on the label, that would be a different matter.

But if an item is described honestly, the seller shouldn't be obliged to give a refund.

It's a bit stiff if ebay allow negative feedback just because something doesn't fit, especially if sizes are clearly given in a listing.

Refund necessary for size issues?

Hi, I sell skiwear and include the maker's sizing and full measurements in my listings, along with a disclaimer that I won't accept returns for sizing issues. A lot of buyers don't do anything beyond look at the picture - I once sold a discounted pair of kids' ski overalls on the basis that they were missing their braces (mentioned in the item title, description, shown in photo, and listed as new with defects) and received an abusive email spelling out the definition of overalls and demanding that I provide them immediately, or suffer the consequences! I responded in a carefully worded email and the response was "No worries - all good". It's enough to do your head in.

But the truth is that I do refund - provided the person is willing to return the goods to me at their cost. (This gear is bulky and the cost of posting it all over the country is horrendous). I will cover return postage if I've made an error, or the item has a problem I missed, but not for the myriad of reasons they come up with  - "I'm always a size 12 at K-Mart, the colour looked different on the monitor, I thought they'd be different (?), my child doesn't like them, we're not going skiing now, " and my personal favourite - I usually receive one or two per ski season from someone whose never seen snow before - "These aren't proper ski pants".  This year's doozy came from a lady who bought a very well known brand of snowboard pants that had waterproof, breathability, windproof ratings ON THE PANTS, and a snowflake motif on the fabric!  She very patiently pointed out to me what they should be like.

Most people have been happy to return items at their cost, and in the very rare case where I've copped an unfair negative or neutral about sizing, I've found that if you PHONE eBay, and have kept your communications with the buyer on eBay's message system, they will remove it.

Good luck,

Marina.

I am not insane, and I have the psychiatric reports to prove it.
