Refunding a bank transfer payment....

Hello.

I recently sold and item to a customer, and they have paid, via bank transfer. The payment has not come thorugh as of yet,  maybe Tuesday it will arrive in my account.

But. Since their purchase, the buyer has sent me numerous emails which are rather nasty and the last was threatening to give me negative feedback. I don't really care about the neg, most people can see though the neg comments anyway, plus the comments this buyer has left for others, they will see straight through it...

Anyhow, I want to refund their money and NOT send their goods. As I said, the neg I don't care about, what I do care about is being treated like this.

So, I may have to contact my bank about this tomorrow about this, but can i reverse or block their payemnt coming through to my account, with having their account details?

I have had a couple of bad customers over the years but this customer has really gotten my goat and I'd rather lose a sale than giving them the items they bought.

Cheers.

Be careful before you refund any money whatsoever.

They SAY they have paid but the money isn't in your account as yet and that is the main thing to keep in mind and I personally would answer their messages and say, 'Payment is not yet showing in my account. Please check with your bank and I will re-check on Monday. I only post items once payment has been received."

We used to sell years ago and numerous buyers-heaps of them-claimed to have paid. My sister used to just politely reply that payment was not showing, could they check. Usually they would answer with "I will pay tomorrow."

So they were lying, they had not paid at all.

In your case, I think either one of two things is happening.

1. Buyer may have paid via bank deposit but is anxious now that you might not follow through as they realise they have no paypal protection.

2. They haven't paid but are hoping to bluff you into posting the item or refunding money before you actually discover no payment has gone through.

The other alternative is that they've misread the bank account number and have paid it into the wrong account. Might be a good idea to verify that with them first.

Refunding a bank transfer payment....

We had a bank transfer buyer a while back who paid by bank transfer and sent a screen shot of the transfer receipt.

All looke good at a glance.

Then they sent a message saying they needed it urgently and could we please mail it before the money came in. They wanted us to accept the screen shot as proof of transfer.

I then had a close look at the screen shot and two digits in the middle of the account number were transposed, so the payment was never going to come into our account.

I messaged the buyer and informed them of their mistake and to please send it again.

We never heard any more from them.

Ended up raising and unpiad item case and closed it after 4-days.

We thought it was an attempted scam in them thinking we would not look that closely at the copy of the receipt they sent.

So the advice is never send before the money is in your account.

No way would I refund them. I would report the email in which they threateded to leave a neg to ebay so that you may find it useful if the do indeed leave a neg.

I would just go with the fact that you have not yet received payment so perhaps they could check with their bank to make sure they sent it to the correct account.

There is no ebay money back guarantee for items paid for by bank deposit so you should be OK there.

If payment does not show on Monday if that has been more than 4 days since the sale ended just start an unpaid item dispute.

If they do pay then just send them the item, I would pay the extra for SOD to be on the safe side.

Refunding a bank transfer payment....

Sorry guys. I must have wrote this wrong....
The issue is not refunding them before their payment comes thorugh. I want to know if I can refund this SOB, once the payemnt has cleared, or, can I get my bank to refuse the money? As I don't have their bank account details to do a manual refund.

I don't really want to send this tool the goods just out os spite now, as the emails were not really nice.

Neg feeback, I don't care for one bit. Let him do it....

Thanks.

I understand that there is alot of emotion in this, and I do sympathise with having to deal with a horrible buyer.... but I think you might be doing the proverbial cut-nose-spite-face thing by trying to back out of the transaction in this situation.

It's going to be impossible to refund someone that doesn't want to be refunded if they haven't paid with paypal.  I doubt the bank can do anything but worth a call I guess.  Failing that, you ask the buyer for bank details... they don't give them... more angst.. yuck.

PLUS the buyer gets the satisfaction that they have got to you.

I would stay professional.  If payment clears, send the damn thing.  Cover yourself with a tracked service lodged over the counter at the PO so there is no risk of them raising an item not received dispute.  Get SOD if you think that's needed.  Then don't grace the buyer with another thought, they don't deserve your energy.

You have emails from the buyer that they have threatened negative feedback.  Ebay looks very unfavourably at feedback extortion so if you do get an underserved neg you will be able to challenge it with proof of the buyer's intentions before they even got the item.

This will feel better after a couple of days.

Good luck.

Refunding a bank transfer payment....

PJ, there is ebay MBG for bank deposit - see highlighted section.  Bank deposit is an option in the checkout process.  I think there's been a few threads about this.

Covered

Purchases are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee when all of the following are true:

  • An item isn't received or it isn't as described in the listing.

  • A buyer reports that they didn't receive an item or requests a return within the eBay Money Back Guarantee timelines.

  • The buyer made the purchase on eBay.com.au via checkout or an eBay invoice with one of the following payment methods:

    • PayPal

    • Credit card or debit card

    • Paymate

There isn't anywhere that ebay states it excludes bank deposit for MBG claims, and because they just add the reimbursement to the seller's account, they can recoup the money without paypal involvement.

I'd rather not give them the items, regardless. I will see the bank tomorrow and ask them about it. As the item I sell, you need somewhat decent automotive experience to fit this item. Although I do supply a two page instruction sheet to help the buyer out, I can see this turkey stuffing things up, demanding refunds etc etc and getting me more pee'd off.

I wonder if I can cancel the transaction via my store...Prior to the payment clearing. Just not sure on how to go about it as they have paid via bank transfer.

If I do end up sending the item it will have SOD, as most my items do anyway.

Thank you to everyone for their input. I can put up with a lot of **bleep**, some customers just aren't able to be human, I take it with a grain of salt and just smile and wave. But this guy really got my goat.
