Not sold on ebay for a long time due to my dislike of paypal but wish to list a few items that would cost too much to post. I take it I can state pick up only and if someone buys and wants it posted I can cancel the sale with no negative feedback?
Also I do not have a paypal account but it seems ebay will not allow me to state COD only? If someone pays via paypal and I have no account then what?
Last thing is considering the items value is it right I ask anyone who pays via paypal to sign a document on pickup that confirms they have picked up the item and have inspected it to cover myself from false paypal claims? Might sound paranoid but it does happen.
Thanks.

@i-love-my-sheep wrote:I had a case opened against me for not as described, paid via bank deposit, a pick up item (which they inspected and still paid for it and took it away). The correspondence while that was open was all through PayPal. The was nearly 3 years ago though, so it could have changed in that time.
Your memory must be fading.
The correspondence would have been through eBay - not paypal - as there is no financial transaction to dispute in Paypal.
You can open a dispute in eBay if you have paid by other means than Paypal.
You then deal with eBay in the eBay resolution centre.

The messages I was getting from them came through PayPal after the dispute was open. It confused me given they had paid via bank deposit. I had to login to PayPal to print the messages out for court and I also printed the messages from the eBay messages for the correspondence prior to the dispute. I still have them all, I can scan them in to show you if you like (I'll have to buy a scanner first though).

AM, it cost ME a fortune in legal costs because despite ruling in my favour and them being told they had to pay my costs, there was no way to enforce it without taking them back to court, which would end up costing me even more money because there was still no way of getting the money out of them.

I don't believe you are recalling correctly.
Paypal is a financial institution that has to withstand a high level of scrunity in Oz to be registered in this country, I do not believe they would ever involve themselves in an eBay transaction where they did not receive the payment - for legislative requirements they have no interest in the transaction.
eBay disputes are processed through eBay resolution centre.

Why would it cost you a fortune ?
What "court" was this case in ?

That must have been an awful time for you ilovemysheep. Good you won. That would have cost your buyer a lot in court costs.
Claims in this area are generally dealt with by the civil administrative tribunals in their jurisdictions.
For lower value goods most people represent themselves.
In Vic the cost for applying VCAT to hear a small claim under fair trade or consumer law for goods or services with the value under $500 is around $55. Claims under $10,000 are around $160.

It was dealt with through the local civil court, small claims in NSW. They instigated it, so I had to go with that. It was for $8,000.
The excessive amount I had to pay was for my solicitor. They had one, so there was no way I was going to represent myself. I did the first 2 court visits when I had to go to Sydney and I was way out of my depth. I speak medical, not legal, and as there was a lot of money at stake (by my standards), I wasn't taking the risk of losing when I knew I'd done nothing wrong. When I successfully got it transferred to my local court, I employed a solicitor.
As I said, the PayPal thing confused me too because they hadn't paid that way. I don't know why they would have allowed that, but I just checked my paperwork and it was printed out from PayPal. Has got me beat!

You are required to offer a safe payment method (such as PayPal) if you wish to sell onEbay.
Pick up only items are not afforded PaypAL protection so no one can lodge a claim.
BTW , COD stands for Cash on DELIVERY, better to offer Cash On Pickup.
Simply open a PayPal account & list your items as pick up only.
Please correct me if I am wrong - but have had it happen.
If an item is paid through 'direct bank deposit' - a claim for item not as described etc can be opened through eBay.
Same as PayPal.
Yes Helen, that is the case.
The case is handled in the eBay resolution centre, similar to Paypal, but NOT Paypal - as the buyer could not even open a Paypal resolution if there was no linked financial transaction, as you would be aware.
Has been that way for all my trading time on eBay - several years now.
It is always interesting I find that posters who scrunitise others selling and listing practices - inlcuding stawking facebook etc, are not so forthcoming when queried about their own claims ....

It is also interesting that those who don't have firsthand knowledge continually try to belittle those who do.
One can always argue as to which party comes off looking like the numpty.
I know where my vote goes.
