Selling items from a smokers house?

Hi all,

Not found any rules on Ebay about this, is there any rule saying you must state an item your selling has come from house where there is a smoker? Like a wooden furnture peice, stand, even though item has been fully cleaned up.

Just wondering, maybe similar to people who have wood fires on in winter., well kind of.

Thanks'

Phil

Re: Selling items from a smokers house?

Trust me, hawk, I do understand that.  I have four non-smoking children who continually criticise me for smoking, however I'm a grown adult and it is my home - if you don't like it, don't visit and please don't buy from me:-)

I have people from online who come to Melbourne and need accommodation, and believe me, I emphasis very strongly that mine is a smoking home and is over run with dust bunnies, yet they still come:-)

So because you smoke you thinks its your right to impose that on unsuspecting customers by sending them smoke stinking items?

I also have a slow combustion heater and the smoke from that is totally different to cigarette smoke.

and because you fail to mention something doesn't make your description accurate and that would be the bases of my FB

Not unsuspecting because, like me, the seller specifically draws attention to the fact. Methinks you doth seek an excuse too much.

Plus - the bit about the couriers contractors van. Or is that a myth?

I fail to see how an item sealed in packaging in going to be affected while in a van for a couple of hours.

and my comments were regarding sellers not advising an item stank of smoke

Re: Selling items from a smokers house?

For what it's worth, an item that arrives reeking of cigarette smoke doesn't warrant a SNAD claim as far as PayPal are concerned, regardless of whether the listing stated that the item comes from a smoking household.

I don't mean to suggest it doesn't affect the appeal - or even use - of an item much the same way other flaws can and do, and for many it would incur additional effort and/or expense to try and remove the scent, but I mentioned the PP policy as I think some may be unaware that they specifically mention items smelling of smoke don't qualify for buyer protection, and that while I think disclosure is the best policy, there is nothing (from eBay or PayPal) that officially obliges a seller to do so.

Vans are small, packaging is generally not airtight, and a lot of it is quite porous. Cigarette smoke is strong and will permeate the packaging. In fact, it can get trapped in the air pockets of bubble wrap, and even once out of the courier's possession, continue to affect the item.

Re: Selling items from a smokers house?

hawk - please reread what you wrote.  I don't impose my items on buyers - they choose to buy from me.  I said I believe the smell is different, and I don't fail to mention the smoking.  You have no basis whatsoever for leaving me negative feedback other than you're a numpty because you didn't bother to read the listing, or you ignored my suggestion not to buy if you're likely to be offended.

Can I have some of what you're on please?;\

Ok I get what you are saying now.
