Did everyone know that you can now send an offer (at a discounted price) to a buyer when they ask a question about an item, I only just noticed it.

Interesting, no hadn't noticed, but then again, don't seem to have anyone 'seeing' my listings at the moment either, as I haven't had any questions
I wonder is that the first step towards all the new promotional 'tools' that were discussed on another thread. I didn't realize they were starting so soon. Some of them sounded quite beneficial, and am hoping some of them may help kick start sales and get me out of the dark !

Yes, saw it this morning.
A little pointless for me... if I wanted to sell an item cheaper Id put in the 'make an offer' button on my items. Others might use it.
I do use the Make an Offer button, as I am happy to consider offers if buyers are wanting to purchase more than 1 item. Of course you do get the ridiculous offers, and I wish there was a button for Make an Offer if buying than 1 item, but at least with the new option, for newbies who may not understand how make an offer works, or when buyers enquire about price to buy say 10 items, it MAY simplify the process. Could also be very handy when frustrated buyers using the cart or app send through a list of what they are trying to purchase - a little discount might help quell the rage

Just saw it the other day, at first I didn't think much about it and dismissed, but now think it could be a very handy tool.
Might be the go if a bit of discussion going on with a potential buyer who is querying size or shape or colours or something, to get it added to existing order to sweeten the pot, or could be old stock, or something highly unusual, unique or weird and therefore probably not going to sell fast...or just slow sales......or perhaps if they are query pricing or postage cost could be used as sweetener to throw in for them. Lots of reasons that you might send an offer it to the potential buyer as a good deal. After all, if they are looking at an item, and sending a query there is probably some interest in it.
Think many sellers will use the function for their own particular situation at that point in time, I know that I will be having another look at the item when contacted and will consider if sending an offer might get another sale for us. Better to sell at a couple of $'s less than nothing at all. OK, that's my 2 cents worth.

Not too long ago there was talk of eBay automatically adding on 'Best Offer' to some Buy-It-Now listings when re-listed.
Sounds like they REALLY want us using the Best Offer system.
New direction for eBay: from auction site to bartering site.

I dont have best offer on my BINs but still get offers on a regular basis. If the offer is reasonable and the item has sat around unsold for 12 months or more, I am usually happy to accept. This new function could be quite handy at times. One of ebays more usefull recent changes.

Love it !!!
I only noticed this send offer function a couple of days ago myself, when a buyer sent a question about an item including an offer to purchase at a price lower than the listed price.
I was able to send back a counter offer which they accepted, without me having to do the usual edits to add a make an offer to a listing.

Yes, it's a great new feature, especially if a buyer sends a message asking if you'll offer a discount for a bulk purchase. The offer price is kept private and not displayed in the sales history like a normal Best Offer.
The feature was announced as part of the Spring seller update in the UK and I haven't seen any announcement yet on the AU site but eBay has added a help page.

I get quite a few enquiries about bulk discounts, this could save me a bit of time, hassle and a few of my free listings if I can send a private offer for a specific quantity, rather than create a separate listing. Could also be a way to apply one-off discounts (I know a different discount feature is coming, but I've provided store credit to a customer in the past, so using this feature would be a way to avoid any associated complications when they want to use it). Neat. 🙂
