Good morning.
I was just wondering if there is a protocol in place for when a member is able to start selling? For example: do I need to have a certain number of feedback from buying items?
I have a few items such as household items, books, dvds and a couple of pick up items also that I'd like to get rid of.
Obviously as a new member with only 1 feedback so far people might be wary. I am purchasing some lower cost items to try to build up feedback score.
thank you in anticipation of your advice and tips.

Jane, I found the original siggie funny too...but just not appropriate for the circumstances IMO.

gawd there are some precious posters around here, preferes to complain about their siggie instead of participating in the discussiion and perhaps help with advise:^O
Jane, so true, it dont matter how low your feedback. its all to do with good presentation and the description.
Signatures suck.

Oh dear I didn't mean to start a battle royale about my signature. Strange though that the original one which I changed, was still showing up in the earlier posts yesterday afternoon and yet now I see that the new signature is showing up in all my posts, even my old ones.
Definitely no offense was meant by it. I have lurked here a while before joining up again (forgot my 2004-2007 user name and password and figured I'd start over seeing as I only had about 30 feedback) and I've noticed that some discussion board posts can get a bit heated with a lot of verbal stoushes between some people, which is why I came up with the original signature.
Hopefully my new one won't offend anyone but still reflect what life can be like, both on ebay and in reality.
All advice given was gratefully received and taken on board. I will amass a few more feedbacks before venturing into the jungles of selling on ebay.

grumpy, mebbe ebay could assist you with locating your old user, wouldnt matter if its a different email addy as long as its the same IPS.
& a second account is a sensible idea, the 30 feedback ID could be used for selling if it included any selling, which would alleviate any concerns you have about buyer confidence.
If not; buyers would know if your new account was only used for buying, building a FB score thru buying wont help with buyer confidence, imo.
and if you did some selling years go on the other acc., you could add something in your description - just a fresh ID.. im an experienced ebayer...buy with confidence.
i' use this ID for posting and buying, Recently a opened a fresh account for selling only and had no trouble with sales (woulda liked more of course), depends if your items are in demand...offered at a reasonable start price...and with a minimal P/H charge
Signatures suck.

Thank you joz*garage.
I can't really remember much about my old id, it had 'cats' in it but when hubbys work took us to the UK for a few years I didn't use ebay whilst there, and we now have a different ISP to what we had before. As I said before I only had about 30 or so feedback.
I was purely a buyer back then too, not brave enough to venture into the big, bad, scary world of ebay selling. Stuff that I would sell would only be books (read trashy Mills and Boons romances mainly) and a few DVDs. We haven't accumulated much 'junk' since returning back to Aus last year. But give me a few months and a few visits to op shops and the like, I'm sure to accrue a few items I will look at and think, "Why on earth did I buy that?" Hehe!

Grumpy, if you can locate your original ID it is better not to buy and post on your selling ID. As long as it is still available ebay can help you to access it again.
Your siggie did not start a battle as far as I am concerned...you asked for advice and tips to get started with selling here. I just gave you a suggestion from the point of view of a long time poster here. Siggies are supposed to "say" something deep and meaningful and I saw a siggie that told us that our advice stinks.
As I said to Jane, I thought it cute and funny, just not appropriate for here. I suggest you post it in the Caturday thread in Community Spirit where it would be appreciated...there is a new Caturday thread started every Saturday and they are great fun.

Thats not really true.
That's just some posters preference.
I do have a separate buying and selling IDs, and use my very favorite selling ID to post.
As to comment regarding Siggies are supposed to "say" something deep and meaningful I have never heard anything quite so ridiculous on the boards yet.
The boards are discussion boards and there will always be differing approaches to posting on a board that has a healthy level of participation.
Unfortunately IMO there is a small number of regulars who take it upon themselves to put in place additional "rules" and "guidelines" that are non-existent except in their own minds.

Siggies WILL, however, transmit to those who read them an impression of the member. Whether that's accurate or not is moot, but the impression will remain.
Nothing to do with rules or guidelines. Just common sense. Don't alienate potential buyers.

well some of the regulars need to rethink theirs then.
it is also a policy breach to have any thing other than your name or ID or ebay store in your signature - according to the site map ]:)

Well I am not breaching policy then, am I? I don't have a signature...never have and never will.
