Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

Hi all,

has anyone has the problem of a tracked satchel going missing after it was lodged with Australia Post? And how did it turn out?

I sold a small item last month and sent it the following day , Payment was made via paypal.

3 weeks later the buyer emailed asking where it was and subsequently it turned out to be missing in the post.

The buyer has lodged a paypal claim and the sale amount has been frozen in my paypal account. Australia Post has started an investigation but the satchel has not been scanned since it went over the counter of my Post office.

Im concerned that not only have I lost the item but also the money. Paypal say to keep proof of lodgemnet and that is what i have done.

Any thoughts on what I do next?

Yes for 6-months or more now they have not been able to issue lodgement receipts for C&S articles lodged over the counter.

You just have to rely on the fact that it gets scanned in as an event when you lodge it.

That is at least proof of lodgement as far as I'm aware.

Hapened to me recently. Aust post have item squashed regularly in the machinery they told me and it may have ended there. Despite being jewellery there was no evidence of that happening, and they could not find it at all, and the tracking number showed up only as being posted. I fully refunded customer. Aust post refunded the cost of the satchel only!! If no insurance no compensation from aust post. They lost it but too bad is their attitude. I doubt they even looked, as it was weeks later I got a reply.

justcruising48 - you should have persisted with Australia Post and mentioned you want to claim up to $50 compensation that is available under as per their terms.

I had to do this a little while ago. They eventually relented - (the first refused because they thought I was a eparcel customer)

They also tried to avoid compensation due to typos in the address (made by the buyer!) and also got upset about some spacing - that click and send caused , a forward / got inserted in the address - even though it was not in the ebay system..and the / did not appear on the label (I keep copies of all labels made, PDF) - but on aus post end it showed a /

eg

1234 pleasant / way

should have been no /

"Compensation can be paid discretionary however please be aware when an address is not positioned correctly and words are not spelt incorrectly this does void all claims for compensation as stated in out terms and conditions. "

Good luck.

.

Re: Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

same happened to me, was refunded only cost of satchel, even though lodgement was obvious, as tracking could be seen from sydney to WA, then it 'disappeared'... was told, get insurance next time, or it isn't covered.

Re: Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

Need some advice. I sent the parcel the same day the buyer paid. It is a prepaid shatchel and I have the tracking number. This has neen lodged (and I have the lodgement recipt) and upload to ebay. I get a message the following week from the buyer saying it has not arrived. I checked the tracking deatials and uts saying still in transit. So I lodge an investigation. I have informed the buyer and given them the case number ect... I get a message back deemanding a refund. I ahve asked the to wait until the end of the investigation as the parcel could still be delivered. They are still messaging.

I have contatced ebay via chat, they informed me as I have a tracking number and that they can see that it has been sent I am not required to refund the buyer. But i am getting differing information. If I rfefund, I am then out of pocket and the item, I do not see that as being fair as I have done nothing wrong.

Re: Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

Hi Raffta1,

Could you please provide your Australia Post tracking number?

As of today I currently have 6 parcels that are "in transit" since Jan 17 and they are all bouncing around delivery centres between Vic and NSW. I also have 2 that are "bouncing" the same way within Vic.

I have provided all the details of my tracking events to the AP rep, and it is apparent to me at least that, Australia Post have a real issue with their latest "state-of-the-art" sorting equipment.

I believe this problem to be Australia-wide and that  the Australia Post CS phone reps think that each one I'm reporting is just an "unusual" anomaly.

The main centres involved are Sunshine in Vic and Chullora in NSW in my cases. The other centres are Seymour & Sunshine in Vic and the parcels are just boomeranging between them.

Cheers,
Peter

Re: Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

The system is broken!

Bought item. was not happy with quality, so requested return. Lots of resistance from seller, eventually ebay supplied return post voucher. I lodged the item, and it was subsequently lost by Australia post.  I actually suspect it was batch received by the sellers warehouse, and made to disappear! Lodged a claim with paypal who refused my claim despite online proof of lodgement. I have receipt, but paypal never asked for it.

Tried to claim insurance from Auspost who told me the receiver has to process and receive the insurance claim? Dazed and confused and $110 out of pocket> NOt happy at all.

Re: Tracked Satchel lost by Australia Post

This thread is more than FOUR YEARS old.

Your complaint is, at best, tangential to this thread.

You might like to try again on the 'buying' board. Where, at least, you will be on-topic asnd there won't be any non-relevant stuff posted. Or less, anyway.

Unfortunately to be eligible for PayPal buyer protection, the goods must be returned at PayPal's instruction - if goods are returned outside of a PayPal dispute, the dispute itself is pretty much void or useless.

Re: the second point, it's surprising to me that Aus Post said that, because in the last several months I have found the opposite to be true, both with packages that were lost in transit, and with ones that were scanned as delivered but not received by the buyer.

I even had one case where a parcel was marked as delivered but the buyer (recipient) dealt with Australia Post right up until they agreed to compensation. At that point the buyer contacted me because AP would only pay the compensation to me as the sender, unless I authorised them to pay it to the buyer.

I would recommend maybe trying Aus Post again, with any luck you may find the information and assistance different.
