Tracking Number Email

Just a quick question.

Within Ebay, if you mark an item as sent, manually, and at the same time you add the tracking number manually,on Ebay, then submit the update to the Ebay system, does the tracking number get sent to the buyer in an email as well as advising that the item is on its way? 

Hope it's not a silly question,as I usually use the label method, which is automatic for notifications to the buyer.

When you add the tracking number the buyer will then receive it in their item order/purchase

I really can't answer your question. I am really not sure what you mean about uploading to the eBay system? Didn't you just do that when you marked the item as sent and put in the tracking number?  Perhaps you mean when you save it ?  As for the buyer being notified, I have seen that you can opt in or opt out of that.  I can't be sure but I think that setting came up when printing a label.

If you mark the item as sent, the buyer receives an email letting them know that.

If you then add the tracking number, it's loaded on to their purchase history, but no second email is sent.

If you add the tracking number first, which also marks the item as sent, the tracking number usually seems to be included in the email sent to the buyer, as well as their purchase history.

If sending an item that needs tracking, you don't actually need to mark it as sent - eBay will automatically mark the item as sent once a tracking number is added. Mark as sent is really only needed for letter rate items without tracking.

I only ever add the tracking number. No need to mark as sent unless you're sending something untracked

I always mark as shipped and then when it asks for the tracking number, I enter it in.

What confuses me is the number of buyers who, a few days later, ask if the item has been sent, or the buyers who ask where their parcel is...um...can they not see the tracking number the same as I can?
