What is your greatest financial loss due to Ebays new systems that welcomes...

Merry Christmas, Just reflecting on my year on Ebay. I send standard post due to the low cost of my item and this was never an issue in the last 8 years. A few per year would go missing and I would replace items, no big deal but this year... with Ebays new systems - wow... the increase is crazy..  What is your greatest financial loss due to the new systems? For example I have just had to refund a customer tonight and they have the items but would not update the claim.. A loss of over $46... 😞   Thankfully I am almost flying on social media (it's taken ages) so hopefully I can move on and not a moment to soon!

Forgetful.... leaving a follow-up comment is the beauty of automatic feedback.

My feedback is bland,.... thank you for your purchase..... (always true whether they pay or not) but the follow-ups (usually non-payers) stick out like a sore thumb in theirs and my feedback.  gotta love it

How to lose money as a buyer:

my experience with the new system. Seller ships, something. Never received it. Has tracking. I open a case. Initially, it was a request for the seller to follow up the stalled tracking. Seller does this. Seller tells eBay that I will receive a refund through insurance, or a replacement. They receive the insurance. eBay closes the case as the seller tells eBay I have been reimbursed through insurance. As in, I am repaid. It is now in the hands of my bank. This is a major seller. I don't believe them to be dishonest, just not very well organised with their eBay sales perhaps. So I know I should get this resolved, but eBay wasn't in my favour. I responded to the case as required.

Oh ok seems of the claim is item is not as described the seller had 0 rights but seem different if the claim is item not received. Personally I think Ebay interfering is not really good for sellers or buyers. They should just stay out of it except in the rare cases where an agreement can not be made between seller/buyer.

I do not get what it had to do with you (the buyer) if the seller was claiming back on insurance it still should of been refundeed IMHO. If it was me (and this did happen in the past) I would refund/replace and claim back on insurance

Amber - OMG I can't believe a case can be closed without proof that you have been reimbursed, that's appalling.

I agree that my problem as a buyer from clothing sellers isn't about colour and cut, it's when they try to sell complete Carp in "great condition".  Like excessively  pilled, filthy, missing buttons (like the sort that are designed especially for the dress and can't be replaced), super wash-out like RAGS, holes, open seams.  You name it.  Stuff that I would be mortified to send out myself .  About 95% all is as it should be. I've never had anything go missing.

In selling pre-loved clothing, I've never had any complaints about the manufacture of something like a seam pattern not meeting or whatever.  I'm also really careful to make sure everything I send out is in immaculate condition.  My one and only defect was for measuring a dress about 5cm shorter than actual and the buyer was quite rightly annoyed that the dress was above knee.  I still don't know how that happened, but hey fair enough.

I am sure I'll get the money back, just not through eBay. I agree it should be seller/buyer communication upfront. eBay can make arbitrary decisions that don't suit the situation. Then that's that.

Black poppy, most of my purchases have been great, thankfully 🙂

$0.00

And $46 is hardly low cost and surely has enough margin to cover a few bucks for registration.

Sorry, no $46, that was the same customer, purchasing multiple items over a period of 2 weeks and then hitting me... our item is very low cost...

Re: What is your greatest financial loss due to Ebays new systems that welcomes...

Our issue is not with colour, quality, fitting etc. Our customers are very happy with our product (it's a brand new garment, not used) and any issues are resolved easily. Our issue is that since the introduction of the new Ebay systems and suddenly how our missing items have increased by 500%. That is Customers who say items have not been received and we have to replace or refund. After 10 years on Ebay, a percentage of items do go missing for sure... and that was the same year after year. But now with the ease of not having to deal with a seller and just opening a case this has increased to a crazy level. I compare this to my New Zealand sales over 10 years on TradeMe NZ and the % of missing items via post remains the same and has not increased at all. It is stable year after year. In NZ TradeMe, leaves the buyer and seller to have all dealings over these matters and let's the feedback systemwork as it should. My Ebay customers who need assistance are all so loevly that it is so easy to sort out with them. But now I find though that about 90% of the ones who open these mssing cases, will not communicate with you AT ALL.. I always send an email asking to check addresses etc but no response. Anyway.. I was just wondering how many were effected. I don't have to sell this item on Ebay, I just find it a shame that I can't anymore but can happily sell it elsewhere with no issues. I agree with some comments here i also am a buyer here in Ebay and have dealt with some very unhelpful sellers and some very poor clothing item, not as described.

Re: What is your greatest financial loss due to Ebays new systems that welcomes...

We lost over $1600 on one item due to eBays returns policy. Buyer indicated the item was not working but they would only return half the item as the other half was already installed on the car. They even wrote this in an email through eBays messaging system. Received full refund including postage and we were left with half an item which then rendered it uselss.

For the year I would say we lost around $5000 in returns which were NOT our fault. So this is not counting items we chose to refund as it was our fault and we took responsibility. This is buyers returning alternate items, the OLD car part they were replacing, not the one we sent them, returning empty boxes etc etc

The price we pay to sell here.....

Its pretty much the same stock write off as retail stores have a certain amount they budget for getting shoplifted.

Just posted about my experence posting overseas from Australia, not happy with ebay at all, I am only a casual seller, but can understand how this new trend that ebay has developed to make it easy for buyers to scam sellers would have a major effect on traders.  My loss is $93.00, but to me it is the principle of the issue.   I closed all linked finicial accounts and will not be paying them.

ebay has lost my interest and I will be looking for other means of selling

That is a very bad idea.   Is it worth the loss of your good credit rating just for a principle?  If you don't pay the debt collectors will be called in.

You were never going to have seller protection anyway as paypal does not and never has covered items shipped by surface mail.

To qualify for buyer or seller protection you need to use a qualifying shipping method and surface mail does not qualify due to the length of time it takes.
