With sellers that refuse to accept Paypal payments and the lack of buyer protection I have never felt wanted or safe on that site.

Too true Nova, my working life was spent in Accountancy and it is well documented that when an election is announced, business drops off...this time instead of the 4-8 weeks notice we usually get, we have 8 months...businesses all over are suffering, including here on Ebay, that together with Australia Post rises and the changes constantly made by Ebay are confusing to buyers as well as sellers...when the election is over and Gillard is dead in the water, things may start to pick up again...my sales have halved for March & April and I am still battling through May deciding on whether I should open a store or not...there appears to be a lot of Store sellers disappearing and it makes me want to see what happens before I take the step..Good luck!

What about the rest of the world are they having an election too???

... My international sales are down to the same extent that local sales are down

If my international sales were at the same level but local sales were down then I would accept "the election" excuse.

AP prioces rises actually reduced the price of some international services by virtue of creating more postal zones

...... I don't think the "election excuse" explains the downturn in trade at all

Postage price 'hikes' are apparent in the UK....see the discussion boards over on ebay.co.uk, same stories about postage. Also on the USA ebay site on ebay.com see the discussion boards in Seller Central....worth reading too are the discussions in Technical Issues. Postage increases were inevitable as there have not been many in Australia over the previous six(6) or so years-ask any long time serving AP agency or office worker. I asked at two offices.

It's more than postage increases causing these sudden and across the board downturn in ebay sales.

There are usually at least 2 Aus Post price increases per year. It's called greed.

I think people maybe over stating the impact the postal increases. Sure it bites a bit, but its added less than $3 to the larger parcels I send. The real killer is eBay & PayPal fees...I have to load my prices on my eBay Sellers account 14% higher than I do on the OTHER "QS" Australian site,  and that pushes the Buyers away.

I only sell big ticket items in the $500 to $1000 price range, but use to average 8 to 10 sales a month, so it was pretty good tax free dollars al in all.

In 2 months I haven't had a single sale on eBay, I tell a lie, I had a non paying buyer !

On the day eBay hiked its seller fees I started listing on the OTHER site. In those few weeks since I've had 7 sales on the OTHER site, or $5680 in dollar terms.

Anyway I can't see what all the moaning about eBay is all about, the place is dead or near enough to it. If Sellers got behind the other site it could easily be the NEW replacement for eBay given time and advertising.

eBay is a massive and expensive disappointment these days, I'm just over getting worked up over it anymore....besides my sales on QS are 100% Fee Free, so I don't mind it being a little slow, it's a whole lot faster than eBay has been which has earned me ZERO SALES and ZERO $$$

Do you charge for your Paypal fees here ?

What is so good about the other site where not enough sellers offer Paypal ?

My word I charge PayPal fees, hence the reason I place 14% on items to cover eBay and PayPal fees.

really don't get your point regarding not enough sellers offering PayPal on QS....why would they want too ????  Before eBay mandated PayPal as a payment option, very few of my buyers ever used it, most usually paid by bank deposit.

I accept PayPal on QS, but only 1 of 7 buyers have used it...people as a rule like choice, I let people make the choice themselves.

paypal is a pretend bank which charges more than Amex. They have created an artificial fear among buyers to push the use of their expensive product. If you are an honest seller, then people trust you and this reflects in your business growth and success.
