Why are Final value fees so High?
Once E Bay final fees apply and the paypal fee as well we are looking at around 13%... then the shipping cost have to be met.
I know a fee should apply but this makes selling low priced items not really worth the effort.
Yes I understand Profit Viability of a product.... But with the turn over E Bay makes... I believe the 9.9% on both item and shipping as well, is a bit rich... especially for those of us non business sellers.
"Crickey Mate" suggests finding another Platform and I have found more than one... I can still use Paypal and it will give me all the protections I require; and my overhead becomes much less. Very soon I will stop selling on Ebay that is of course unless things change.
If anyone agrees with my point of view I suggest they vote for change with their feet as I will be doing.
Good Luck everyone

We take the view that if you had a B&M shoptyour rent alone would be about 10%-15% of turnover. Then, when you add in the additional overheads the eBay fees do not seem all that bad, in fact rather a cost effective way of selling

What has this to do with seller fees, the subject of this thread?
I doubt many sellers would care about your issues over postage.
If you're going to drag up old threads, drag up relevant ones.
Better yet, don't drag up old threads.
Post a new thread in 'buying' if you think you have a question. From the looks of it you don't.

But shirtless, apparently....
DHL recently doubled their prices (I used to use them to send internationally, but switched back because my contract was up for renewal and their increases were exhorbitant - international 250g parcel via AP going to the US, after all my volume discounts, is ~$16. Via DHL it would be over $26, plus some surcharges, a $30 pick-up fee whether they are collecting 1 or 50 parcels, and minus any insurance cover (AP's price includes up to $100). Maybe for that seller, DHL does not offer any attractive incentives, price or service wise.
Just because postage is more than you want to pay, doesn't mean it's not an accurate (or the best) quote.

Where was the shirt coming from? It doesn't sound like Australia at that postage rate.
You'd be surprised what it costs to post stuff, even within Australia. Then you have wrapping plus maybe bubblewrap to add to the equation. If you yourself have not posted anything lately, you might be very surprised by just how much it does cost. And anywhere overseas, the costs start to go through the roof.
But regardless, any purchase comes down to an individual decision. Was the shirt worth $56.50 to you, that is the bottom line. If not, then move on. Ebay itself won't worry about individual buying decisions, they would only look at overall trends and the seller will probably either find someone to sell to who lives closer (for cheaper postage) or else, if they are charging an exorbitant amount, they won't sell much, if anything at all and will probably eventually drop off as ebay sellers.

So why did you list them on Ebay if you believe the other sites are better, or did you know that at least here they would sell, and you wouldnt get tyre kickers.

A lot has changed in the nearly 5 years since this thread was started
What has not changed is the buyer's choice if the start their auction at a price they will actually be happy to get if there is only one bid
The fees are no secret
There is also no seller protection for direct deposit, so if you get a scammer buyer you lose the item and the money
