@lizzyamelia wrote:Like to OP I want FREE listings without paying extra money to ebay.
Got rid of my "store" years ago when they kept increasing the monthy fees and fvf - its cheaper to run free listings when they let go of the scrooge mentality.
They must have forgotten it is a long weekend nearly everywhere (and a wet one in Sydney) - could have gotten lots of listings done if I had 100 free to use.
The posters here are trying to help - but I agree that there seems to be a mentality of gimme gimme gimme. I don’t agree that there should be more ‘free’ listings for non-store holders, if they have more than 40 items a month to sell, they should pay for store fees like everyone else.
Lizzy: of course people are going to see that you are not in fact listing personal items “I am not a business only a person trying to downsize my personal unused items”. Your listings are for new DVDs.
If you had asked advice you would see that it would be much more economical for you to have a store - $20 for a basic store and you get 200 free BIN listings - With a store the final fee would be 8% instead of 9.9%. - there seems no logic in you running auction listings at $1.50 each when you mostly get 1 bid.
At the moment you have 73? Listings which would be 33 at $1.50 = $49.50.
My maths are a little shaky but a store would look good to me in your position.

I'm clearing clutter from my place, that's what I am listing. I bought a heap of stuff years ago to make jewellery, some to keep, some to give as gifts, some to sell at the local Sunday markets. I'm also listing a few mineral specimens from my collection that I have multiples of (so I can make room to buy some I don't have!!), and I'm occasionally listing some collector coins. Once all this stuff is gone, I probably won't sell much, so me having a store would probably be of no benefit. I didn't realise how much I had accumulated until I started a Spring clean. 3 drawers and 2 boxes of this stuff! I realised that after 4 or 5 years I wasn't going to do anything with it, plus the Sunday markets got canned a few months ago, so have kept a few things and am selling off the rest in the hope that someone else might be able to do something with them.
The 100 free listings I got at Easter saw a few things get sold and I have to say, it was a VERY time consuming exercise. It took nearly all weekend to list the 100 things and then when quite a few things sold, keeping up with trying to get everything mailed, was getting tough when I have a regular shift working job that often clashes with AP's opening hours. I can now see why for some people it's a full time job. I have no idea how the large volume sellers manage to list 10,000 items!!!
That said, if ebay offers another 100 free listings, I'm certainly going to take advantage of them, but if they don't, then it's no big deal. It would be nice to get rid of this stuff sooner rather than later but I'm happy to plod along. I do keep an eye on the forums to see if anyone posts a link to free listings for the weekend, but I'm not going to lose any sleep if it never happens. I'd much prefer that they run a promotion whereby the FVF were reduced for a time. That would be of more benefit to me, despite me only selling 1 or 2 things a week.

yeh chooks, of the 200 free a little while back, I think I sold 8 items. fortunately many were relists, as you say very time consuming creating listings etc. reduction in fvf is a great idea but i don't think it will happen. I'm thinking that now ebay made the recent changes it may also mean no freebies above 40 to casual sellers. which leads back to the opening a store thought... personal prefer I guess.

you call it 'attack' . . . . I call it 'scrutiny'. When a member posts comments in a forum they can not expect them to go unchallenged if need be. Without getting back into specifics, which you would see as a further attack, looking at a poster's listings, feedback etc and pointing out inconsistencies is not an attack (in my opinion).

I am an official non store seller. I am wondering whether if I changed over to a store format to take advantage of the lower fees, but paying the penalty of having to have a fixed priced instead of auction, can one change back to non store at a later stage?
And following some of the threads, those 100 free listings are not really totally free are they? Some of us sell items for say $10.00, with $8.50 postage (round that up to $20 for easy arithmetic calculations). That's approx. $2.00 in fees plus Paypal's cut of say $1.00. On a $10.00 sale this works out at 30%. No wonder we need those free listings! Plus the original purchase price of item!
I suppose those who list big items (furniture etc.) are not disadvantaged as they get a big sale plus with pick up they don't have postage or the FVF on shipping.
Cheers

you can change back to a non-store with the following conditions:
Follow the steps listed below to close your eBay Store. Before doing so, please note that:
All of your current Buy It Now listings (if any) will automatically end.
All of your current Online Auction and Buy It Now items will remain active until their ending date is reached or they are sold.
Store subscriptions are for a minimum 30-day period. If you cancel within this period, you will be billed for the entire 30 days. If you cancel after the minimum 30-day period, your subscription will be pro-rata’d and any overpayment will be reflected in a later invoice.

the listing is free, ie there is no cost to list.
this does not refer to selling costs, In fact the terms and conditions quite clearly state that FVF fees etc apply
and Yes, you can close a stor4e and revert to a regular account

You can open and close your stores at any time. You are charged a minimum of one month's subscription and then the charge is pro-rata if you close part way through a month. On this ID I close for the summer and have a Basic Store Jun- Sep then upgrade to Featured Store for Oct - mid December.
