My one and only negative feedback has come from a buyer who didn't receive his CD's...so when he told me that the CD;s were missing... I REFUNDED him ALL his money ( including my "out-of-pocket" postage expenses)...so he hasn't lost a cent. I, however, have lost my CD's, plus postage cost....(due to his refusal to pay for "tracking"). I thought that when a buyer receives a FULL refund they couldn't leave feedback. Ironically, the reason why I immediately refunded the buyer's payment in full, was to avoid negative feedback...How wrong was I ?

Well...there IS a way to make a buyer pay for tracking...and that is to make "tracked" mail the only postage option available....most Ebay sellers I seem to deal wth include registration or tracking as the only postage option...especially for overseas sales....in my case, I thought to myself...well one exception to Poland won't hurt...wow, how wrong was I?

Thanks, I'll try that, but I don't hold out much hope, as Ebay doesn't seem to have the time to get involved really......

I'm the seller who originally posted thisquestion and I'm STAGGERED that you've commented about the postage rates when Ebay says that you're based in the UK & clearly have NO IDEA where the CD's were posted to. For your information, they were posted from Australia to Poland, airmail only (as the buyer refused to pay the full extra cost of registration) ...which for anything up to 500g is Au$26.20 alone, without handling fees etc ( & that's the COST price to me). The is NO registered letter rate for a record or CD from Australia to anywhere on earth...if you want it registered...it's at the parcel rate....no choice.
Since all of this hassle, it's occurred to me that the buyer is just a scam artist, who refuses to pay for full registration because if he DOES....then I"M protected. He doesn't want that ! NOT paying registration protects HIM from having to pay for the item.
In a previous sale where an LP I sold was returned to me (via seamail after 6 weeks) as "address unknown"...the buyer received a full refund & was prevented from leaving feedback by Ebay...maybe under instructions from Paypal?...Just like when I'm not allowed to leave feedback on postage when it's "free"...so why is this scammer allowed to leave negative feedback when he hasn't paid a cent.
To thos who say that the buyer still had a negative experience...try being the seller, whose lost money on n the postage AND lost his CD's as well....
Yes, I've blocked him now...and I've also blocked a buyer from Canada who complained that Australia's postal rates are too high.....though acknowledging that it;s out of my cobtro...**bleep**?....giving me
I overheard someone talking at the Post Office ages ago & he was saying that everything is FREE on Ebay..."just don't ever pay for registration"..because, as I now know, the SELLER is then protected.....& a scammer doesn't want that !
Here's a close to "apple-to-apples" analogy.
Lets say you buy a car and want it transported to you, because you live a long way from the seller. You can take the cheap option of NOT insuring the car against theft or damage....or you can pay a whole lot more for insurance to safeguard your precious car. NOW...you choose the cheap but "risky" option to not insure the car in transit...& guess what?...the car goes missing!
Where...oh where...on planet earth will the seller (having had his valuable car vanish, supposedly)...be forced to give back ALL the money paid for the car AND refund all the transport costs as well? So...the seller's lost his car AND is out of pocket for the transport costs too....ludicrous...
Also, my seller rating was (650+) 100% before this one and only EVER negative feedback...I think my mistake was not letting a proper Paypal claim be made & concluded, so it might stop him from leaving negative feedback...
How about this comment from a Canadian buyer who complained about the high (registered) postage cost from Australia to Canada.....
"I am a good buyers, I pay the fastest I can and I have the right to say that shipping is to high even if I can not do anything about it. I don't have better protection then you do. I am as honest as you are and when I wrote my feedback, I wrote in honesty with the info I had avaible......you have a good collection but I don't mind to purchase from the rest of the planet if I accept the price of shipping. Thanks for the insight on how your area works it will be usefull but still out of reach.
.....He also told me that the high Australian postage costs "kills sales"..then I explained to him that I'd rather not sell something than the buyer get it for free, with ME paying the postage costs too.....after he gave me neutral feedback....which he has since removed after I explained about the reasons for me needing registration....

It's amazing the freedom BUYERS are given. The freedom to leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK that is unwarranted and unsubstantiated is so unfair on us as SELLERS, however, I find it quite unnerving that we as sellers aren't allowed to leave negative feedback to buyers -Oh sorry, let me correct - you can leave negative comment but their feedback rating can only be positive, hence when you're selling you're being false and fraudulently mislead into thinking that your buyer has always been given 100% positive feedback. ALWAYS read up on your customers (may be time consuming but worth it so that you avoid selling to that person if possible).
As for your CDS, I bet they got them......lied about not getting them.......people can be dishonest

....Re: your comment...Why would a buyer voluntarily pay for your insurance? Would you pay for my House, contents or car insurance?
This is not comparing apples to apples. I wouldn't, of course pay for your house or car insurance because that property is yours, not mine, so why on earth would I safeguard your property by paying anything to anybody, it's got nothing to do with me at all. The difference is that the Ebay item has been sold to the buyer..and paid for...so the item being sent is the property of the BUYER now, NOT the seller. At all other times on this planet earth, it is the responsibility of the OWNER of the item to protect it againt damage or loss. Only on Ebay, is it the responsibility of the person who doesn't own the item (the seller), to pay for insurance on an item he DOESN'T own, if the owner (buyer) wishes to save money on postage. I'm sure that the Ebay people who devised this policy have no idea how much it is being abused, as we, the sellers, are not allowed to even debate the point, all they want is "proof of posting" & are we allowed to leave negative feedback. I had a buyer recenly who said that despite the fact that I'd charged him EXACTLY the correct cost price of the postage, he stated, rather arrogantly I might add, that as a buyer, he had the RIGHT to protest the high cost of my country's postage rates, even though I have no control over it whatsoever, lpus he knew exactly how much the postage was going to be before he bought it...

tracking is the level of proof that you need to satisfy PayPal that you have posted your item.
It is your insurance for the PayPal dispute for claims that you didn't do your job.
It has nothing to do with the actual item per se.
If it goes to paypal, you need to provide proof of postage. This is generally done by the tracking number and proof of lodgement. If you can do this, not only will you win the payPal claim, but you can also go to Aus Post and say Where is my parcel?.
The buyer, only needs to say "I didn't get my item". and if you cannot provide proof that you got posted the item, you can't win.
So, yeah, it is YOUR Insurance.
It's your insurance for your protection.
Don't give the buyer the choice.
It's all about you being able to prove that YOU did your job.
How does a buyer prove he didn't get something?
But you, with a tracking number, can prove that you did send it and that the party who bears the guilt is the postal service.
