its all getting dreadfully boring here, when it should be one of the busiest times of year for sellers...
I know some of you might advise me to open a store, but I see many closing theirs down as they are not getting the sales.
clearly the advantage of most stores is you get unlimited or a lot more listings that the non store.
I;m sticking to my 40 "free" listings on both my ids, and yes that has impacted my sales some, but has forced me to sell via FB groups which I has averaged out to roughly a sale a day with no fees.
sad really having been here since 2005. of course if Evilbay were to throw me freebies... I remember last christmas it was finishing up xmas eve.. - so when they were likely to get little people paying to list... I would not turn them down.
I think it must all be about those big corporations again. last time I saw a thread on this I heard the ebay share price was still doing ok but I do wonder...

Black Friday sales, think Boxing Day sales where people camp out all night to stampede be first through the door, only to be trampled by those that follow.

I take back what I said about maybe sellers will see a spike in sales over the next few days.
On the home page is a big sign saying '10% off everything.
When you click & open any ad, there in red is a sign that says
Use code to get 10% off this item
But if you click buy it now, nowhere does there appear to be a space to use the code so i presume you would get charged full price.
If you place the item in the cart, then you can use the code BUT up comes a message that the code cannot be activated as you haven't reached the minimum spend amount.
Okay I did see (in very small print) the bit about subject to terms & conditions but really, a min spend of $75???
$25 I could understand but $75 is rude, given the way it is advertised.
Why doesn't the ebay ad say 'Spend $75 or more and get 10% off'. Give people a better idea of the score at a glance.
Not impressed.
Will it help sales? maybe, but it won't do a thing to encourage people to buy a few little things on impulse.

That is not a particularly large spend. You can buy up to 10 items from as many sellers to make up the $75....just put them in your cart and use the code before signing into paypal.

It's a big enough spend to me, but that isn't my main beef.
It is the fact they have a big banner across the home page that says "Take 10% off Everything" and that is patently misleading as far as i am concerned.
It would suggest to a casual buyer that if they were to purchase an item-let's say they were looking at something for $50-that they would get 10% off.
I don't mind the fact ebay has terms and conditions, just think they could & should be a bit more upfront.

I agree....the devil is always in the small print, but the spend amount is not exactly hidden when you read the T & C. It is mentioned several times at the beginning of the T & C.
For those who have used these offers before it is pretty standard.....there is usually a minimum spend amount but it can be made up of up to 10 items to reach that amount.

I would tend to agree that ebay does manipulate the system, it is very obvious when you have minimal sales yet they are all from either the same obscure postcode or similar
I had 4 sales over the weekend, all individual buyers, 2 to postcode 2145, 1 to postcode 4066 and 1 to postcode 4078
I suppose I should be thankful for any sales at all ... slowly winding down my store on ebay ... ever so slowly lol

So long as the ad says there are terms and conditions it's legal, even if it's in small print. If they advertised 10% off everything and didn't have in the ad that there are conditions, the ACCC would find it misleading and would take action.

I tried buying a number of items, but it said I had to spend $75 in a single sale to get the discount.

You need to put all the items you want to buy into the Cart and then proceed to checkout. You can have up to 10 items from as many sellers.
When you proceed to checkout, go to the bottom of the page and put in the Code and apply it to get the total BEFORE signing into paypal.....you cannot apply the code once you have signed into paypal. Apply the code and then go back to the Paypal button at the top of the page.
I have just used my 3 discounted purchases to buy 17 items from something like 10 different sellers.
