If you are worried about standing in line, suggest to your post office they do what ours does; provide a secure drop off point at the end of the counter. Same sort of thing that most movie hire stores do when returning a DVD.
That is, as the pack or parcel has already been prepaid, you drop it into the secure bin and walk away. Then, when the counter staff have a spare moment, they scan them in and put them in the pile for collection. You benefit because you donโt have to wait in line. They benefit because it makes more efficient use of counter staff time.
As for fraudulent buyersโ making lost in post claims, this has not been my experience.
We used to find when sending items regular post (or click and send equivalent) that about 1 in 200 never arrived. We then started using DO NOT SAFE DROP (DNSD) stickers and it reduced to about 1 in 1000. This indicates to me that the main reason for lost in the post claims is not dishonest buyersโ, but buyers who simply do not take the necessary precautions to ensure the security of their purchase after it has been delivered.
This is the reason why for a long time now we no longer reimburse buyers for items sent regular post, and especially where the buyer stipulates a DNSD sticker is not to be used.
Oh and just for completed sake, I have been sending items regular post for years and in all cases where buyers' have lodged PayPal claims, though PayPal initially found postage was not proved, when push came to shove, they reversed their decision.

SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC but reflects that continuosly changing playing field that corporate business are now using which is borderline monopoly practices when it is used by our own postal services against the population of an entire country!!
When dealing with the corporates they are becoming increasingly deceptive and the smell is what is normally classed as stench.
In the latest scam perpetrated by Auspost it appears that they are deliberately delaying standard letters in the hope that many people will be forced/choose to move to express post. Go to the auspost site and see how transparently deceptive they are by placing express post as the default response to letter rate queries and then after some head-scratching and desk thumping you eventually unintuitively find the standard letter rates buried under another tab. Another case of disruptive innovation? .. methinks yep!!

Why dredge up an old thread like this. The last post was over 1 year ago.
