newbie buyer wants parcel sent cod

hiya I got a ebay newbie who wants me to adjust postage to Zero  because he wants parcel/s sent COD to his POBox. cos he has a Aust post account.

Ive never sent one like this befor in nearly 9yrs on ebay which has thrown me slightly since he never mentioned anything until after he had bought 2nd item [which ] I didnt know he was bidding on either.

So really two things  1] Im a bit peeved about it because he didnt ask would it be ok  and 2]  Can I post it like hes asking. Zero postage cost doesnt work on invoice unless it says its Pick up so I cant resend invoice without some sort of numerical for posting.

TIA.

Hi XXXXXXXX

I am really sorry you did not ask before purchasing if I was prepared to post by a method that I do not offer, unfortunately due to the lack of protection for either buyer or seller with COD items I am unable to oblige. Yours etc

If they decide to pay including the postage I would recommend that you send either click & send or registered.

I am confused! How would COD work here?

Does the seller think that Australia Post is footing the bill for the post and will pay them when it arrives?  Anyone else befuddled or is it just me?

COD is an Australia Post service whereby for a "small" fee AP will deliver the parcel to the buyer and collect the amount owing to the seller and forward said amount to the seller.

Does the buyer have any idea how much extra they will be paying for this service?

Ahh thankyou Lyndal . . . making a little more sense now!

If you did decide to allow COD method, you can adjust the invoice by putting postage it at .01 (1 cent) and also  taking 1 cent out of the total . . . .

No way should the OP give in and send COD, if the buyer fails to pick the parcel up and pay then the OP will have to pay the cost of postage both ways plus a fee to get it back.

Apart from anything else it gives the buyer a false expectation that they can ask for things that are not offered, perhaps some previous sellers have given in to this nonsense which is why they are asking again.

Bottom line is if a buyer wants to use a service the seller does not offer then they should ask BEFORE they bid!

Just be aware that if the buyer doesn't collect and pay for the item, you will be up for some pretty hefty charges to have the item returned to you. There's no way I'd ever risk sending something COD, least of all to an inexperienced buyer.

Actually you can enter 0 as the postage, do not click re-calculate, preview and send.  However, you cannot take anything off the sale price, not even 1c.

As everybody else already said, COD is not suitable for eBay transaction, the option should be removed.  As long as OP did not offer it in their listing they should not be even considering it.

I suspect the buyer thinks the OP can send it to them and charge the buyer's account.

Which would definitely be possible if the buyer gives the seller their account details, login, etc. Pretty stupid buyer, imo.
