just sold an item that clearly states that it is pick up only, E-mailed buyer items are ready for inspection and collection, He has E-mailed back with let him know how much extra for postage. I have told him collection only no postage. Someone asked this question on listing and was told sorry no postage, So where do I go from here.
Thank you in advance for your help

The difference is that the Buyer would be paying by Paypal not Cash. So while there is no Buyer protection for the Buyer from Paypal (as it's Pick up only) the payment is open to a Bank Chargeback.
The Courier would have to pay the Cash amount on pick up to the Seller to remedy this situation. - and I can't really see that happening!.

Whether it is right or not, for pick up only a buyer can pay via paypal or credit card, which ever is offered, as one has to be, as it is a safe method,
This is regardless whether a buyer collects or a courier collects.

Apologies I assumed that one would pay by paypal not cash especially if I was using a courier for pick up and delivery. My bad.

retailtherapist you are not incorrect.
As traders must offer a safe payment method, and cash only is not considered safe as there is little to no 3rd party proof of payment.
I get buyers who pay by paypal all the time and pick up to save on post costs.

I get very few, as the odd picker up is happy to pay cash. Had one the other day; drove from 60km out of town. Okay, they were coming into town anyway... I have, however, decided to personally deliver PP funded purchases, because it was convenient for me. No chargebacks. But I am aware they are possible in those circumstances.

The simple answer is to list in a way that they can only pay by Paypal if they also pay for delivery at the same time.

-Your bidder is only a newbie with 9 feedback.
-Some ebayers are unable to view the questions at the bottom of listing due to mobile aps, so its possible he couldn't see that it was pick up only.
-You did not write PICK UP ONLY within the blurb, and the payments/postage TAB can be a bit difficult for newcomers to fathom how to access it. Easy when you know its there, but necessarily a stand out feature.
Personally, if it was me, I would not offer a $300 freighting charge. The buyer then would have to pay you by Paypal and you never know, might just do a charge back months down the track, or get you for excessive postage or come here and complain, then get advice on how to deal with your outrageous postage claims! LOL 😉
Be nice and gently explain to your buyer that the item is PICK UP ONLY as per the terms of the listing, and that is all you can offer. If you are feeling generous, offer your buyer a mutual cancellation, then you will get your fees back from ebay, and free to relist, and this time put it in big bold letters within the item description PICK UP ONLY. 🙂
If you have proof of postage from Pack & Send the buyer cannot do a charge back/dispute - that's why you choose the most expensive and trackable option so it satisfied PayPal's requirements for proof of postage.

They can indeed pay, if you have local pick up they select that at check out.
What planet are you on tonight PJ ??? Are you encouraging ebay policy violations, by not allowing a buyer to pay via safe method for pick up only item ??

And by the way, I regularly pay via paypal for pick up items - on the spot when I collect, so that the transaction record is 3rd party for a whole range of legitimate reasons.
