Hello there.
I sent an item to Chile recently (from Australia), and the customer has complained that it hasn't turned up yet. She says she has asked at the post office, and was told that there is a code that "began with two letters, then two numbers and finally two letters", and wants me to maybe check up on that.
Is that what comes with a registered package? I only register my stuff if the customer particularly requests it, and this one did not, but I'm just not sure what code this person is asking about.

On the customs sticker you or the PO should have put on the package you should have kept the part with the address of the recipient there is a code under the bar code.
Here is how it would look with different numbers.
LC558791329AU
If you still have your copy call Aust Post and see what they can tell you about it.

I'm afraid the post office keeps that part of the customs form themselves and, what's worse, I use about four different post offices, and I can't remember which one I used for this particular package.

Alright, I've worked out what the code is, but I'm a bit confused. When I send something overseas, one part of the customs form is put on the package, and the PO keeps the other part.
I rung Australia Post, and the lady I spoke to was very surprised at the request, saying she's never heard of the receiver ask for such a code before, and she said all the forms are archived and not kept at the PO through which I sent the package.
So I'm not really sure what else I can do.

JMO but if its been 4-5 weeks,I'd be refunding the customer in full & asking them to repay when item shows up.Hopefully they're honest.
Just because buyer didn't ask for registered post is no reason not to do the right thing by them.

It's been four weeks exactly since I sent it. I'll certainly refund him, no question about that. But he seems in quite a state, saying he wants it by Christmas, and it's a fairly rare item too.
I suppose my kindly heart wants things to work out for him.
