i'm sure a lot or most of you probably received the managed payments email this morning. in case you didn't, or missed here - ebay is rolling out managed payments later in the year with pre-registration opening shortly.
more info is located at https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/managed-payments

Digi - the sole trader registration process does not allow you to enter an ABN, which is no big deal if you are not registered to collect GST, but do you think this will be a problem for sole traders registered to collect GST (ie eBay may pass on GST on fees if the ABN is not recorded)??

That's actually the reason I used the call service when they first invited me to register - I'm a sole trader, operating under a registered business name, and am registered for GST, so I'm kind of halfway between the two options they provide (technically I'm a sole trader, but they don't define it the same way it actually is in Aus, the sole trader option is too simplified, and the company option is really for legal entities, properly incorporated businesess, PTY LTDs n' stuff ).
The rep I spoke to told me to register as a company, however I didn't ask them if I register as a sole trader, whether it will affect my GST status, unfortunately. It's kinda dodgy advice if we were talking about making a legal declaration but I figured it's just an eBay classifcation of account type that fits in the way it matters, so why not... I made it through a few screens of entering details (name, address, ID, business name, ABN and all that, it asked me for the name of a primary stakeholder... ok, that's me, then a screen or two later I had to give the name of another stakeholder, no option to state there are none. Whelp, there's just me and I'm not naming someone else on the account, so I went back to the start and just did sole trader).
I guess as long as all the proper invoices can be produced for GST purposes it's not too much drama - i.e. at the end of the day I can claim it all back if I have to start paying it on eBay fees, so it's really just a matter of slightly higher cashflow for most of the time (which I don't spend anyway), or lower bill when I do my BAS, so it's much of a muchness (except for the fact that I get to earn interest on the account I put my GST money in to).
I'm still registered as a business seller under current account type, with ABN supplied etc, but will probably have to wait until everything's been implemented to know what will happen to that status for sure).

Ok i bit the bullet and started to pre-register, I got really nervous when ebay requested my Govt ID and stopped.
no other online selling platform needs this level of personal information and Im simply not comfortable giving it to a compamy that I simply have no faith in.
What is the consequence of not giving them this information?
I have tried to read up on it all but its so overwhelmingly confusing, not to mention really **bleep**py timing as small business owners and people struggling to overcome the strains of Covid.

Do we know if we can have the payments deposited into paypal instead of the bank? We tend to use paypal for everything these days and personally think for us it will just be a hassle to move money over from bank to paypal. We tend to just use the money we have in paypal as we just let it sit there in our PP balance.
Thanks

Yeah, but eBay is going to force all sellers into it sooner or later I believe.

Everyone will be forced to sign up eventually from what it says on the info page... also just found the answer to my own question. Ridiculous.
Can my payouts be directed to my PayPal account?
With Managed Payments, payouts are set up to be automatically deposited directly to your bank account, regardless of the form of payment chosen by the buyer. Since payouts are no longer sent to PayPal, this means that funds can be accessed directly from your bank instead of needing to manually transfer funds from PayPal to your bank. Transaction status will be available instantly, and all sales and payout information available in your eBay account.
eBay will manage payments for most sellers in 2020, and all sellers will eventually be required to have eBay manage their payments in order to keep selling on eBay.

If the bank account you use to accept the eBay funds into has a debit card (Visa / Mastercard) attached to it, you can link it to PayPal and send instant payments using the money in the account as the funding source. Most transaction accounts will provide a debit card either by default or by request, so it will remain almost functionally identical, except you get the added protection of the card as well as PayPal protection, can earn interest on money held in a bank, but do have to wait for the initial transfer from eBay to bank account.
@sugarbydesign re: no other online platform requiring ID - that's actually not true. I have been required to provide scans of my ID to PayPal, Etsy and Shopify in order to continue or start using their payment systems - eBay are asking for the reference number, which is better than them having a full visual copy of it.

So when I signed up it said if you register by May 31st you will get the 250,000 listings from then on as a thank you for registering early. Has anyone got those because I have no mention of them in my Seller Hub and my usual thingy where it says how many left of the 1500 I usually get is completely gone. Just two promos for promoted and ebay plus listings there now.

Not sure if anyone has seen this, but it is the list of items you are not allowed to sell once registered for managed payments. Some of these I have sold recently and others I suspect will apply to other regular sellers or lurkers on these forums. I have highlighted some of the interesting ones. NOTE the consequences listed below for sellers who dont co-operate.
What is the policy?
Sellers enrolled in managed payments are not allowed to list the following items:
Listings that don't follow these rules may be removed from the site or from search results. Other actions we may take include lowering a seller's rating, charging additional fees, limiting buying and selling privileges, or suspending an account.
