My biggest challenge will be biting the bullet and sending them off to the Op shops :0)

Still I will search around other sales platforms to see if they are worth the effort before I do that.

Hi Jenny, I'd make giving books to Op shops the final solution. I was disgusted to discover that many op shops automatically throw out any 'old books', or those the person in charge doesn't consider popular, even if they are in good condition. My information on this procedure comes from people who work in Op shops. Seems daft for them to chuck out free stock when the obvious option is to have a .50c sale box or have a free box outside to lure people in.

I wasn't surprised to learn about the disregard for books at a local op shop, one of the 'chief ' volunteers has proudly claimed she has 2 books in her house, a bible (I'm guessing she sticks to the first half, given her general way of life) and a phone book. No, she was not joking. As close to a humourless person as it is possible to be without being dead.

Re: the roll out of ebay managed payments

This is f*cked up!

I was forced to enroll months ago, and had been having trouble entering my bank account details which prevents payouts! Had tried using different bank accounts yet couldn't get pass the "verify this is your action by entering your bank account numbers" part.

Been contacting ebay for two months, had over $10,000 held up, bounced from sells department, to back office, to tech department, to managed payment department.

Guess what happened today?

They ended all my listing, removed all my sales records. All in the name of placing my ebay account in restriction due to invalid payment options to buyer! Can you believe it? All those Indian IT genius had written such a **bleep**ty program call Managed Payment and fail from the start.

And what's worse, it is not even cheap to use, even more expensive!

Ebay just want to eat all the income stream that paypal had been doing. Trying the best to serve us sellers my ass!

Ebay don't have Indian IT workers. Try the Phillipines.

Re: the roll out of ebay managed payments

I have a personal account on eBay, I was a hoarder, I am nearly 60 years old, during covid-19 for survival I started selling lots of old **bleep** I have collected over the years of hoarding. I am a private seller, I have become a "Power Seller" and I am being forced to use managed payments as eBay is calling me a business. One of my hobbies was TV and Radio repair and I have about 5,000 Valves and I have been selling these, I also used to do repairs and have a lot of old record players VHS videos and stereo equipment from the 1970's. I have been selling this so that I can clear out the clutter from my house and my garage. I have also sold some old car wrecks and parts that were burned in the 2009 Bushfire. I am being forced to be a business and use managed payments. I really do not think these sales warrant me to get an ABN number and start paying taxes to the ATO because eBay wants to use managed payments and make me a business. My sales were usually less than $150 per month, during Covid-19 I averaged between  $1000-$2000 in a month or there abouts. My sales have dropped, now to less than $200AU per month. I pay including paypal fees close to 15% of the total made including tax on the postage. None of the items are new as such, always Antiques, second hand or NOS. I guess this will be an end to me selling on eBay as I see no way of staying a private seller anymore.

I don't mind the fact that eBay is going to Managed Payments but the fact that I am being classed as a business and will have to get an ABN number. etc does concern me. What are other peoples opinions on this one?

Re: the roll out of ebay managed payments

All sellers will be moved to managed payments this year.

There is no requirement to get an ABN. All you need to do is READ the sign-up form, where you are clearly given the option to register as a private seller.

Re: the roll out of ebay managed payments

You still need to register as a private seller, everyone that wants to sell on ebay has to do this as ebay are cutting out the middle man regarding payments.

But by registering for managed payments doesn't garantee ebay will accept you they still might turn you down and restrict your selling ability.

Where is there a sign up form that I can read first without signing up? Do you have a link?

It should be in the email that you received from ebay asking you to register
