BEWARE of Global shipping program

This must be the biggest profit making rip off eBay invented. EBay decided that they can rename Australian government 10% GST to import charge so they can double triple or even quadruple it for the benefit of eBay shareholders extra dividends and you will in reality pay in return for the privilege of indemnifying the crooked sellers. EBay stating in “Global Shipping Program” information for the sellers “You're protected from negative / neutral feedback,” so forget eBay principle of protecting buyers from dishonest sellers.

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

Looks like you have no concept on how Australian GST work.  Aliexpress charge only 10% -- Alibaba 10% -- EBay direct sales only 10% -- as hundreds of $75000+ GST collecting honest online companies that collect ONLY 10% GST!!! This is SIMPLE!!! @ATO business in Australia can directly offset in the quarterly GST lodgement. “”GSP”” is the only one company that I’m aware will on purpose muddle any business account books with GST mixed with they own profit margins  so it is impossible to offset full of they GST against your honest GST expenditure. Warm your GOOGE and do some ATO research how you can offset ”GST” against your beloved GSP? Make sure that your accountant is fully aware of this crooked transactions details or you may find yourself investigated and fined by ATO.

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

This is the deal I’m not buying from GPS I’m buying from a seller on EBay

You are buying shipping from the GSP  and your payment for shipping is made direct to the GSP.  As your chosen shipping  company, the  GSP is then responsible for collecting and processing GST,

The ebay seller is only paid for their domestic shipping

As the GST is being collected  by  the  GSP, (your choice),  ebay has no responsibility for applying GST to the transaction

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

Shipping has nothing to do with the item value. So you buy the item and pay GST on eBay not on GSP! You can NOT BUY anything on GSP! This is shipping company not a retail outlet!!!!!! Except shipment service they have no correlation beforehand with an item sold on eBay except weight with fix postage costs.  If they intend to collect GST for the value of the item then this is illegal act and need to be investigated by Australian government FULL STOP,

Maybe you should notify the Australian government then?

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

Been wondering why they have so far failed to report their findings to the relevant bodies

I mean, they know their stuff, see it happening but choose to abuse and accuse people here rather than taking action and reporting it

Something NQR right there

Too busy hoping to revenge buy and listening to the Channel4 News, obviously

Perhaps not aware of the S in GST.

GST - is a Goods and Services Tax.

Dom et al, it always astounds me when members make statements here and get answers from experienced members that shows them they are incorrect, they insist that we are all wrong and they are right........

Sheesh............

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

OP, you should read two threads in particular.

This one concerns GST on low value imported items.

And this one concerns the GSP.

Even they are older threads, they are the exception to the rule that older threads are no longer relevant.

They are not threads which argue either in favour or against; they are explanatory.

Briefly, just to address two points in your posts,

1. As per the new-ish Act concerning the purchase of low-value imported goods, GST is payable on the cost of shipping as well as on the cost of the item. Not only that, but it’s payable on any insurance fee, repacking/handling fee, and even – infuriatingly but understandably – any fee set in respect of collecting that fee. The GST portions of that total cost are remitted to the ATO.

2. The Act identifies three possible entities responsible for collecting the GST on such a transaction., and sets out the rules to establish which entity is the one responsible if a transaction involves more than one such entity. These are:

the seller (if the seller sells ≥ AU $75,000 p.a. to buyers in Australia);

the EDP (electronic distribution platform - e.g., eBay, Etsy, Amazon, etc), assuming EDP meets that AU$75,000 threshold, even if the individual overseas sellers selling on it do not; or

the shipping forwarder, if the item is sent first to a domestic location, hub, warehouse, etc., and is then delivered by the forwarder.

The legislation is set up with the broadest possible “catch”, quite deliberately, to limit any possibilities of the consumer’s avoiding the paying of GST.

Read the threads for further information.

Re: BEWARE of Global shipping program

I dont need google to understand GST, domestic or low value imports, as I have been registered right from the start of GST.    Dont need an accountant to manage GST, I use mine for the difficult stuff.  Have been audited twice by the ATO for GST compliance, again no need for an accountant present.  No fines or penalties issued,  actually  both times was a relatively easy procedure and a lot of additional advice was provided by the auditor
