I have tried to find the right dining set for several months ( need it so I can relist my house for sale). Today I waited , watching the perfect set that I placed a bid on yesterday & put my One Click Bid in during the last 25 seconds. I received a mesage from eBay saying the amount had to be higher that the current bid, which it was by $120! I bid again, & again the bid didn't register. The winning bidder won the item on $50 less than the bid I repeatedly tried to lodge. I reported it to eBay & all they said was that my last registerred bid was yesterday & I must've enterred the wrong amount. I have replied again telling them again that I bid twice with plenty of time & it is either a glitch in eBays system or buyers are still using some sort of programs to knock others out.
This has happened to me a few times & I fobbed it off but this time I'm p'd. Has anyone else had this happen? Both the buyer & seller lose out when this happens. In this case the seller coulld have got another 30% on their item!

Plus mine within the last 25 seconds for $150.05 that didn't go thorugh as I got the message I needed to enter a higher amount than the current bid!

If something I want is that important that I must have it I would never leave it to the last minute of an auction.
I would place the highest price I was prepared to pay well before the auction end.
Trying to secure highly desired goods at the lowest price you can can lead to tears. I would never trust eBay would not glitch and fail me, as it has you.
In the end the highest bidder wins, not the one that manages to get the last bid in.
Whilst you may pay more than you would have if you bid in the last few minutes, if you are prepared to pay more - and you highly desire the goods to the point that you are upset if you miss out, why on earth trust a glitchy platform renowned for these types of issues??

One click bidding only bids up to the next highest amount so you couldn't have bid the amount you say you did.
But if you bid $150 like you say you did the normal way then that bid wouldn't of had time to register in the last 25 seconds

I didn't know 1 click bidding had faults. Lesson learned.
I put 2 bids in within 25 seconds & they had time to register as I had messages from eBay for both. As I said, there's nothing that can be done now but just wanted to see if others had issues with 1 click bidding.
I have noticed on items I'm selling that peoplethe majority of the time leave it to the last few seconds to bid so thought I'd try that tactic. If no one else is bidding on an item I do my highets amoutn & se what happens. This item had multiple biddres & the ability to go way over my budget.

Yes, one click bidding only takes it to the next bid amount.
Bidding $150 in the last few seconds, means you have to confirm that bid
and the process may take too long to register.
The winning bidder put in automatic bids starting at $26.05
Automatic bids is the way to go IMO
Maybe their automatic highest bid was $155 - you still would have lost it
edit: note to self - type faster

Never used 1 click bidding, but here's what ebay says about it -
1-click bidding
To help you avoid being outbid, we offer 1-click bidding during the final 60 minutes of a listing. When you use 1-click bidding, we automatically raise your bid by one increment. To use 1-click bidding, you need to be signed in to eBay and have at least one previous bid on the item.

On the listing page, when you click one click bidding, it takes you to the next page which is pre-filled in with an amount which is one increment higher than the current highest bid.
You can then choose to click on one click bid and in one step your bid is accepted without the need to confirm.
Or
As HBH wrote, you can manually change that amount to any amount higher and use it like a proxy bid , again in one step without the need to to go to another page to confirm the bid.
