Maybe. There are some very reputable dealers out there and a doll costing $7000 may have some provinence that can be traced.
One of the books I purchased had a traceable history and prior to being sold on ebay, had gone through Sotherby's auctions in London where it sold for quite a bit more than the price offered on ebay.
The other pair of books I purchased cost me $1100 on ebay, again from a reputable OS book specialist. It was a set of first editions from one of Australia's highly regarded explorers. I resold them in Australia at a fine book auction for $4,500. ......

Oh of course, regarding a $ 7.000.00 purchase of a doll (in the UK) someone has to come to a community board full of lay people for advice on custom fees etc.
When making such a large purchase wouldn't it be more prudent to enquire at customs for such advice ?
Just saying .....

You are probably right.
As admitted in a previous post, I was unaware of the customs issue even tough I purchased books os reasonably regularly. I had made a number of purchases under $1000 and all turned up with no customs fees and no problems. It just didnt occur to me that there was customs fees over a certain dollar figure. I assumed customs fees must not apply to books. I might research the books I,m buying but I know nothing about customs laws and fees. My bad !!!!
As you have pointed out though, the doll buyer is aware there may be issues and should really check the authorities web site or contact them.
The boards are a great place for people to seek advice and help each other. I have learned something new from this thread and appreciate the advice others with experience have brought to the issue.

I can't believe that this thread is still going after the OP got the correct answer in the first post.
The only information the OP asked about was whether Customs charges were payable and the correct answer is Yes.
If she had asked how much then she would have been referred to Customs for the correct information.
