It's all well and good to suggest to people to ask for First Class International, but there are size and weight restrictions on that service. For a lot of people, their item is too large or too heavy, which means it will be sent Priority. That is generally on par, and sometimes even more expensive than GSP.

If you wanted to give helpful advice, suggest to the members that they check for themselves on the USPS site to see if their item will fall into the restrictions of FCI. If it is small and light enough, then approach the seller to see if they can change the shipping service. No point asking for FCI if they item is too large. As an example, a pair of shoes is too large.

I feel sorry for you if the GSP has made your life more difficult and no longer fun.

Personally I can not imagine my life revolving round a shipping service on ebay....if an item is too expensive with the GSP I just don't buy it.

There are cheaper shipping services and methods that we discussed by other members. Cheaper than the Pitney Bowes GSP rip.

With Pitney Bowes GSP, people may bid on or buy-it-now on 5 or more different items by the same seller.

See below how I got a better outcome by dealing with a helpful caring seller.

Postage via GSP is   ...   US $21.64 (approx. AU $30.63) = $108.2 (approx AU $153.15)

Postage bundled up via USPS is 14 Us = around 19.67 Aust

* GSP = Bad

* USPS = Good

Sympathy can be a good thing and I sympthise with anyone who has a nasty experience with the GSP which is many. Also glad yous have been OK so far. A kudo for you anyway just for recognising that there are sympathetic posters out there.

No Kudo for you on this post here. I gave you a kudo on the last one because you partially, accurately predicted the future when you said  ... "Sympathetic posters" be along soon. If 2 others beside myself came, I would have given you 3. Hang on, I can't do that!

Anyway, I do sympathise with the OP as this person is wondering what the heck is going on.

Hi again gtk-holdings. If you do a search through the archives and also on Bing, Google etc, you'll see the sheer agony that people have had by using this abominable service. One could be forgiven for thinking that certain aspects of it are not dissimilar to a mob type protection racket setup.

You do have freedom in buying.....if you don't like the GSP just don't buy from sellers who use it.

It is so simple I don't understand why you can't avoid sellers who use it.

You're not on the page Lyndal. Yes I have freedom in buying but only from sellers who post via USPS First Class International etc and also the British equivalent. Global shipping seriously impacts on the power to choose. Yes it does. It takes away some of our power to select I was very very lucky that I came across a caring seller who was willing to change her listings for me. Some sellers will not. Please see the below link to understand more on this.

Global Shipping, the problems are never ending, everyone loses in the long run.

Hi,

I'm the sort of person that respects the agreement I have between Ebay and myself. I wouldn't ask others to manipulate their agreement for my own benefit. I guess I'm just respectful and trustworthy, perhaps to my own financial detriment.

Good luck for the future

OK, so the seller in the link above believes there's some kind of agreement between herself and eBay that she must use GSP. I was polite and asked her nicely but it was like coming up against a brick wall. She was from the UK by the way. The seller that I am dealing with now had most of her items listed for Global Shipping. Very nice lady, she went to the touble to re-list the items for me with USPS First Class International rather than Pitney Bowes' GSP.

So by her doing this for me, I have saved around US $70 in postage. These are for 4 items.

My calculations here are a bit off as that was for 5 items. I ended up getting 4 from her. So US $21 can be taken off the total . The USPS is 14 Us = around 19.67 Aust is correct though.

Postage via GSP is   ...   US $21.64 (approx. AU $30.63) = $108.2 (approx AU $153.15)

The items I got from her are rare and I may never see them again.  So would I have purchased from her if she wouldn't change the listing? I don't know! But, in the time I would have taken to think about getting one of the items, they may have been snapped up as there were some hoverers around the items.

Watchers are not necessarily buyers.

Some are other sellers wanting to know if it sells for that price.

Some are just straight out tyre kickers.

So, if there are watchers, you may be the only one who actually wants to buy it.
