Is GST payable on postage on items from overseas.

My understanding is that it is NOT but it continues to be charged. Is this an illegal practice that no one has addressed.

Hi lenzcap123, It may be legal in the sense that somebody is charging us GST on second hand items that are sold mostly by (non dealers) ordinary everyday people who are selling off their unwanted / no longer used items. Which is very wrong!!!!! Anyway definitely not morally legal!

Sady we live in a world where laws and rules are made by politicians that seldom have our best interests at heart. But they have no problem with changing the rules so that banking executives in Australia an get golden handshakes of 50 million dollars, and the wealthy can get tax cuts and line their pockets.  Never mind. That's life. Smiley Frustrated

good afternoon 4channel.

Just out of interest, can you provide a link to bank execs getting 50 million dollars golden handshakes?

A link to just one source about just one exec getting $50 million will satisfy my curiosity.

A link that shows multiple execs getting $50 million would have me going back over every single one of your posts and giving kudos to any that reference $50 million golden handshakes.

In the absence of any link/s I call FAKE POSTING!

Call it what you want sir. Nothing fake about my posts. I read in the news back in he 1990s 2 execs got massive payouts. One 50 mill and the other a bit more from memory. This would have happened under the watch of that baby bush (who out of respect for your sensibilites) I no longer call a G_R_EN  GN_M_.

Actually similarly to what you're doing here, another member challenged me on this and actually found one that supported my memory of this but said he could only find one.

In 2003, the CEO of the Colonial First State which was part of the Commonwealth Bank got 33 mill golden handshake.

At least recently things seem to be a bit better now that Howard is basically nothing more than a distasteful memory for most of us. At least Andrew Thorburn of NAB will only recieve one mill golden handshake but will forgo $22 million of rights of NAB shares.

So now you are reduced to telling us about a golden handshake that happened over 20 years ago.......long before we had the GST!!

You are scraping the bottom of the barrel 4channel.

And I am still waiting for an answer as to how the GSP invades our privacy any more than any other shipping method.

I was just making a point Lyndal that the same people that brought in an additional tax to the many that Aussies already have (Incl tax on their income) also have changed laws, rules and regulations that allow super mega wealthy people to line their pockets more at the expense of the everyday man and woman.

Oh well, I guess someone has to support the lifestyle of the mega wealty, the lifestyle they're used to living. So I guess it can't be too bad that we serfs get taxed on everything and they get tax breaks and all the perks!   Smiley Very Happy

Oh c'mon......the super mega rich as you call them pay far more GST than the "serfs".....and a lot more income tax on their incomes.

It sounds as though you object to anyone making a success of their life and thus earning more than you do.

No sillier than some of the arguments you make against the GSP and GST.

That's rich coming from someone that's well-known for either posting unsubstantiated "facts", posting off-topic and/or dragging up old threads to futhur their own agenda, mostly on threads related to the GSP or the GST...............

so, just let me understand this properly, you remember reading it (in a newspaper presumably)  back in the 90's . . . . . and that another poster did some digging and could only find one reference to a $50m payout?

I'll admit that I already did my own digging before asking you for links, and could not find anything to support the proposition that multiple execs got $50m payouts.

End result: STILL A FAKE CLAIM IN A POST to infer more than one exec got a $50m payout.

Spoiler
still happy to be proved wrong if you can provide links or images of newspaper articles.
