Pick up item

I wanted to buy an item and it is a pick up locally. The item was listed on Gumtree a while back and I was thinking of buying it then but had a slight discrepancy with seller so forgot about it.
If I buy item she will figure out its me and could dig her heels in and possibly cancel the sale(I'm not sure if she can do this)
I do have to go and pick up and am a bit apprehensive about it. She seems very fussy and demanding i. e. argued I couldn't take item on bus as it was too large which was rubbish. You can also make offer on item.

What is a welfare check Michelle?    And what has it got to do with someone who is selling on ebay?

Re: Pick up item

I would like to think her idea of a welfare check involves the police knocking on her door to make sure she is alright.

It doesn't sound like anything good, especially in the context that Michelle has used it.

Re: Pick up item

I assumed it meant reporting the seller to Centerlink (in it being assumed seller is 'on welfare' and hence should be reporting eBay money to Centerlink)

Can you even imagine the response if a seller was making the same threats towards a buyer on here

'They would'nt pay or pick up the item I sold, I'll go to their house and dump the item on their door step and make them pay'

I'll confront them as to why they would'nt pay

They won't answer my message, I'll sue for deformation of character

Or similar

Yes, of course. Buyers can do whatever they like

And some buyers are entitled to be extra special

But it could well be an attention seeking stunt (although I doubt the welfare/authorities would be told why they need to go and check on the seller's wellbeing

And now for the shrieks of "How dare you"  !!!!!!!!

Re: Pick up item

'Welfare check' is kind of an American thing, though they can be carried out here in Oz, and does refer to the police going to a residence to check on the safety or well-being of a person. They don't do anything except make sure the person is alive, uninjured, or otherwise in a healthy state (usually it's requested if someone can't get in touch with a person for an unusual length of time, can't check in on them themselves, and the person is concerned that something bad has happened to whoever they're trying to contact)

They don't really take any other action, though I suspect the police would not take too kindly to finding out their time and resources were wasted in performing one because an eBay seller wouldn't respond to an offfer.

You are speaking tongue-in-cheek, aren't you?

If so, it's hilarious and I applaud your deadpan sense of humour. I am reminded of the style of Paul Foot as we plunge into the world of magic surrealism.

If not - no, I'm not going to think about "if not". There is really nothing that I would be happy to post in response in such a case. Schweigen ist Gold

Re: Pick up item

Well the item has been relisted and I sent a 3rd offer through but no response. If I really do want it I would have to get someone else I know to buy it as a favour. But that's getting to a ridiculous level and VERY troublesome.
And who's to say she would respond to someone else who wanted to buy it?????????. 😒

Re: Pick up item

I hope your offers are not too much below asking as some sellers will not respond to low ball offers and this may be the case. If the item is not priced to high you can save yourself the trouble and just pay what the seller asks.

Re: Pick up item

So why did you mess them around when it was on gumtree? Why didn't you just buy it and be done with it? Why do you always have to complicate everything?
