The new policy that eBay have imposed meaning any buyer residing in Queensland can not purchase any knife is not aligned with the actual legislation changes.
The only thing that has changed is that you need to be 18 to purchase a knife.
Ebay should just implement age verification and stop this ridiculous heavy handed policy that prevents legitimate users such as myself from purchasing legal items.

Hmmm. I think the most salient word upsetting the bots would be 'sword'
Don't see how the seller can remove that word.

Depends on whether its a 'bokken' type sword, which is a martial arts fighting stick or a toy/props type sword such as item number: 226226145155.
For the first just replace sword with stick or just use it's proper name as martial artists would probably know its name. For the second, yeah...dunno.

Hi Cam, it is ill conceived and poorly drafted legislation. Toys, props etc are not even mentioned, let alone exempt.
Plastic and wooden items designed for eating are specifically exempted, I don't think that extends to a timber sword.
Rewording listings for sharpeners, sheaths etc should be OK, but I can see trouble ahead for sellers who change listings at buyer request to circumvent Qld law, no matter how bad it is.
I do not see ebay changing their policy, similar to the GSP policy of refusing to ship knives to OZ full stop.

Needs to be sorted.

Yes it is ridiculous an aged pensioner can't buy Stanley knife blades in Queensland OMG

Unless a person is under 18, age has nothing to do with it
There is no special exclusion for aged pensioners

I guess you want a discount on that as well.
The rules are the rules, doesnt matter if we agree or disagree, Ebay had to implement something and this was the best way unless you want to do Age verification

Buy it from a shop. Simple

Apparently a lot of sellers, B&M and online are opting to remove affected items from sale/stock, rather than attempt to comply and running the risk of inadvertently breaking the law.
It may well be that this is an intended consequence of compliance requirements without compensation.
Prediction, they have just created a black market for these items, lock your kitchen draw and fishing box, don't keep knives in your boat, etc. Theft of such items is going to skyrocket and many will not be reported.

Who do you think is going to sort it, take it up with your local MP. That is the only way there may be some change, but I would not count on it. Having nearly 1000 items affected by legislation and compliance requirements, which I am still trying to comprehend, I can fully understand the current policy adopted by ebay.
Note, the legislation protects sellers and platforms who refuse to sell affected products in Qld.
How stupid does it get, there is no change to legal rights of a person under 18 to possess any of the affected items, merely to buy.
If a person under 18 is accompanied by an adult, they can select any affected item, which can then be legally sold to the adult. The adult can then give the item to their underage companion, but can not sell it to them. Have not figured out what happens if the adult buys the item with money provided by their underage companion.
