embargo restriction

Hi,

Does anyone know if Australia currently have embargo on cargoes from pakistan? I ask because I've just recently ordered a large harp from pakistan but just before the date the seller promised to ship the item he msged me saying that his airline notified him that due to embargo restriction that Australian goverment has imposed my harp will be on hold. Just a week ago that same person reassured me that I'd be able to receive the harp by next week now he's changing his words. Did Australia recently impose any new sanctions? When I searched some flights from Australia to pakistan it still seemed airlines were accepting flights from pakistan

It may not be an embargo as such, but there are major  disruptions to the majority of international shipping.

AP has just imposed temporary suspension of parcel services to Pakistan,  due to limited flights etc, suspension expected to remain until 17/12.    So it would be logical if restrictions also apply from Pakistan end.

Services suspended to selected countries

3 December 2021

We are temporarily suspending parcel delivery to Malaysia, Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan due to limited flight capacity and availability. Courier and letter services will remain available during this suspension period. Items sent prior to 3 December will still be delivered though delays should be expected.  We expect to resume delivery to these destinations on 17 December 2021 and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

From which source are you quoting  this from?

Does this mean the temporary restriction was put in place on the 3rd of december? I made my purchase on the 9th of november. The ETD is 22nd of december but below it also says due to covid there may be delays to delivery.

As for what my seller said to me, I quote his direct msg

Dear customer,

Thank you for the reply. I would like to inform you that airline has sent us email in which they have informed us that
the Australian government temporarily implemented an embargo on international cargo at Sydney airport in the current situation around the world. So your parcel is on hold. As soon as the restrictions of embargo lifted your package will reach at Sydney airport. Please be assured your instrument is safe and we accept responsibility of safe delivery to you.

He attached some img file but I wasn't able to open it.

He didn't say when the restriction will lift and no word about it easing on 17th of december.

If there is delay due to covid does that mean ebay automatically take into these delays when deciding period in which MBG is valid?

You're never going to see this item. The seller has spun you a story. It is also a common tactic of dodgy sellers to find excuses of why the item hasn't been sent and to wait a bit longer so that you in inadvertently go beyond the timeframe for opening a dispute (believe me, we read about it on the boards fairly regularly)

No idea why you placed such trust in a random seller in Pakistan.

Postage should include delivery to your door. There is no way you should have to go to an airport to pickup. The majority of the population does not live within 50km of any airport, let alone an international one.

Please face the fact that you've been scammed. The seller had no intention of sending anything and if if they did, it sounds like it would be a poor quality item, missing several components and cause you far more grief than anticipated.

Open the case when you can so that you recoup your funds, and then please buy from a reputable Australian shop.

Lastly, the seller gave you a discount and a "free" bag, which are things that make you feel more positive about buying, but since they had no intention of sending you anything worthwhile, it was utterly meaningless and just a way to get you to commit to the purchase.

I was told by mikel harp rep that they shipped several harp to Harps Australia warehouse in sydney. Do they sell bagpipes as well? Where is the quote from?

I say this thing over and over again, with youtube reviews from real people I was convinced they were not scam at the time of purchase

Just as an aside to all of this - bringing wooden items into Aus is a huge risk and will most likely attract a biosecurity inspection.

Anything could happen to that item during the inspection, including them damaging the item or actually finding an insect issue and ordering it to be destroyed.

I'm thinking it will be fumigated at great cost - if it actually gets here.

I doubt they will find insect issue with a musical instrument that already has finish on it. As I have said earlier the seller told me they have successfully shipped multiple harps to melbourne. Also what baout other wooden instruments such as violins or cello from overseas like china or smaller harps? Never heard of them sttracting biosecurity checks or be fumigated

Of course I watched that video. I watched it many times before purchasing and reason why I decided to purchase from the company despite is because there was no second hand mikel harp in australia and all other harps of this size was several grand higher in price.
