you can find anything

I wish that were true - my house is currently the end result of about 25 different 'where the heck did I put that thing' searches.

It's the same on eBay - see my recent loss of the policy regarding listing on eBay and other sites at the same time, plus when I clicked on the link for canceling bids, eBay said they couldn't find any matches for the issue I was searching for.

Lucky google knows where the pages are: >Canceling Bids<

it is so hard knowing what terms to search for, eh?

knowing where ebay may have filed a particular policy or instruction.

sometimes it takes me ages to keep tryiong dif search terms - and that's just if I know "it is there somewhere"

so I know how someone unfamiliar with the policies etc, may have trouble becoming aware that they even exist

No. Smiley Tongue

This one was pretty straightforward, but eBay is a labyrinth and David Bowie is in control tonight.

This is what I got - you can clearly see there's a relevant result in the list, but when I click the link for "I want to cancel a bid on an item I'm selling"...

Now digi and crikey - we all know the ebay help pages are there to make life easy for everyone...LOL

First place I check for anything these days is on the site map and luckily in there they have the link for cancelling buyers bids.

Digi - on the page you went to if you had items listed it brings up all your items with a box to enter the item number. You enter the item number which brings up the specific item and then you click on the item where you have the choice of either ending the item early or cancelling bids from a specific bidder. Very roundabout way of getting there but it does eventually get you to the page you need.

I fail to see a legitamate reason for cancelling in this case-

Canceling bids

In general, sellers shouldn’t cancel bids on their listings. However, there are a few legitimate reasons for doing so:
  • A bidder contacts you to back out of the bid.

  • You cannot verify the identity of the bidder after trying all reasonable means of contact.

  • You end your listing early.

Ah yes, ye olde site mappe 😄 I always forget about that, does make things a bit easier, though.

@trusted - some further information from eBay's help pages:

"Buyers who do not meet a seller’s terms as outlined in the item listing are not permitted to bid on or buy the item. Buyers are also not allowed to place bids or buy items with the primary intent of disrupting a listing.

Sellers are permitted to block bidders and buyers at any time prior to the listing close and can cancel unwelcome bids. After cancelling a bid, the seller can add the bidder’s user ID to their blocked list to prevent the bidder from bidding again."

hey Trusty

the legitimate reason is that by law, there is no contract formed until acceptance takes place and an offer can be rejected at any time prior to acceptance.

eBay is just saying we shouldn't cancel the bids cos I spose it makes a few people a bit disgruntled, but the law preserves everyones rights tio choose with whom they want to trade.

The seller does not have any conditions on their other 4 listings so I do not see why this listing would be any different.

Not having a go at you DG just stating the facts.
