This is literally Prison. Total enslavement. Australians aren't allowed to even leave their own homes for 6 plus weeks? Police put a "ring of steel" around the city, with "checkpoints anytime anywhere" to enforce the measures? SICK. Fight this people!

@davidc4430 wrote:what do they do if these border jumpers havent got $4000?
whats the process
fine if they can pay 'on the spot' but how many have that much on hand either as cash or available via credit
They get 30 days to pay, as said. If not, it goes to court and then has a fee tacked on, making it a larger fine.
If they can't come to some arrangement to pay it off, then the Sherriff's Dept is called in to serve a warrant and then takes goods from their house to auction to the value of the fine (plus fees)
Victoria - dunno about other states, but assume it's the same

In N SW if you don't pay a fine ( any fine ) on time or per arrangement, your drivers licence is immediately cancelled as is any other dealing with the RTA eg you can't renew your car, boat, caravan etc rego until the fine is paid.
No sherriff, no court, no selling of goods etc

But that's for a traffic offence involving driving. If it was for any fine, who would care if they didn't hold a licence?
The issue is about a fine imposed for crossing a border during Covid lockdown. They actually got out and attempted to walk past the blockade. Then lied on their declaration.
I guess it's up to Qld how they handle it.

You have the option to dispute the fine, make partial payments or consider a Work and Development Order (WDO). You should get legal advice, so you know what the best option is for you.
Nothing to do with your drivers license.

OK looks like the non payment of COVID fines might be being treated differently to the non payment of other NSW fines. Personally I would be checking up on it if I live din NSW and received a COVID fine

In South Australia the army are definately out at very minor, gravel back roads mounting check points.
Victorians are driving through farm paddocks trying to avoid the border crossings and farmers have had to lock up gates to try to stop them. One cheeky bugg*er even drove past the farmers house and sheds last week. He was reported to police and caught within minutes.
