I was born in '67 so I have no memory of the old money.
Open day at the mint today. Special gold plated round 50 cent for those that visit.
I wish I was within driving distance to Canberra

Fifty years since pounds and pence

Be a good sport and just purchase one off any number of coin sellers here on ebay haha.

And isn't it 50 years since the introduction of decimal currency??

Fifty years since pounds and pence

Remember the butcher/greengrocer/grocer adding up a column of  purchases on butcher paper or brown paper bag in lead pencil ?

And remember the Mental Arithmetic adding up 2 amounts ( long before calculators )

While mentioning to the housewives how lovely they looked

Ah, the old money!

At least they made the new notes the same colour as the old money,

to help with the changeover

I used to get paid ยฃ6 ($12) a fortnight and thought I was rich

If you had kept those early decimal notes and the last pre decimal notes you would be rich now

I have some of both.

But unfortunately, because I knew nothing about them (signatures, etc)

I'm still not rich     sad.gif

Did anyone ever play sheep races with the $2 note?

I collect banknotes have done since I was a child. I remember seeing Commonwealth of Australia star notes in the eighties in the window of a coin and stamp dealer for less than a hundred dollars and now they are worth tens of thousands

But $100 in the eighties was a lot of money.

You could buy a lot of things for $100.

My mortgage was $60 pw in the 80's
