Fifty years since pounds and pence

I was born in '67 so I have no memory of the old money.
Open day at the mint today. Special gold plated round 50 cent for those that visit.
I wish I was within driving distance to Canberra

Re: Fifty years since pounds and pence

LOL, I came to Australia in 1958 from a decimal using country and had to learn all about pounds, shillings and pence.

Once I was comfortable to use Australian money, the powers that be made the change to decimal counting and measurements.

Oddly enough, it was in 1958 that I left Oz........I was supremely familiar with "tuppence ha'penny" and "two bob" at 10 years old.........I had then to familiarize myself with "6 bits" and "two bucks"..........

Re: Fifty years since pounds and pence

We came over in 1969 and it was great that they had changed as it's similar to the Dutch currency at the

time,(just different names for the higher denominations).

Then working with the feet and inches was a bit different,(we had always used the metric system).

So it was good that it changed to metric as well, good.gif
