Message from Ebay saying GST will be applicable to Ebay sales. Is this for new products only or both new and second hand?

If you buy 2nd hand goods to se-sell, then GST is payable.
But GST is only payable if your sales have reached $75,000 for the year.
You can have a good read here, if you like -

@psrhlt wrote:GST should not be applicable to second had items. The new product when sold new, had the GST paid then.B
But the GST is applicable to second hand items.
If the item is vintage or antique then there was no GST paid when it was new. Only items less than 17 years old would have had GST paid on them.

"But GST is only payable if your sales have reached $75,000 for the year."
the ATO is charging Ebay as a service provider which makes over $75,000 a year, and they WILL be passing on GST charges to everyone on all transactions delivered to australia, because "its too hard" to get it right, re 2nd hand goods for personal use, primary products, etc.
if GST hasnt been paid on ebay itself, and display a GST credit on the parcel being shipped, then the goods will be held by customs in a bonded warehouse and collection will not be available until GST has been paid

GST laws are not retrospective.
GST is paid on re-sold used items under the "service", not the "goods".
GST is not applicable on used items for personal use

and this all goes to show exactly how "unworkable" it is.
unfortunately, as i stated, the proposed solution is "everyone pays GST to ebay, ebay claims it back from the ATO where they can, and you sort it out in hell"

This thread is old....the information given at the time was correct.
The system you are talking about has not yet been introduced...it does not begin till July 2018.

And that's exactly why you don't drag up old threads.
The information is outdated.
It just confuses people.
