The Federal Government has dumped a promised increase to a family benefit payment as it continues to look for savings to plug a multi-billion-dollar budget hole.
Finance Minister Penny Wong confirmed plans to drop the Family Tax Benefit Part A scheme on Sky News this morning.
"We are not in a position to proceed with the boost to the family tax benefits as a result of the revenue challenge the Government is facing and the nation is facing," she said.
"This is a difficult decision, but a responsible decision, given what's happened to revenue."
The payment, which would have gone to 1.5 million families, was linked to the the mining tax tax, which is raising less money than originally forecast.
Next week's federal budget will reveal the total hit to Government revenues this financial year is expected to be between $16 billion and $17 billion.
It is believed the revenue forecast for next financial year will be downgraded by more than $20 billion.

Yes, here we go again, more of the same ol same ol broken promises. To say it is a challenge is somewhat of an understatement, me thinks it is more like very poor management which anyone who does not wear blinkers would see.

Frankly all this welfare must stop. Handing out cheque's to dead people & people living overseas has seen Labor ramp up the debt levels that cannot be sustained. The loss of borders & the billions taken from the Australian economy just to barely manage the thousands flocking here whilst our brothers & sisters in remote communities are dying young, going deaf, losing sight & losing hope.
We could be in deficit of $20 billion or more. Nothing they say can be believed.
They won't be around much longer, I have a spring in my step after the dark years of the Rudd/Gillard experiment. A failure of such epic proportions that they will be in political coventry for years.
They deserve the ignominy they are heading for, for what they have brought this country to, the toxic politic & Gillards spite.
The primrose path they have taken us all down is there for all to see & Australians won't forget in a hurry.

It was just a planned boost/increase, $300 per year for a one child family, $600 per year for more than one child in family.
What you don't have, you don't miss. There is no decrease in what families are already receiving.

I sometimes have certain children say "but you promised" to which I reply, no, I didn't promise.... I said we might do that...... depending on the day or unless something else comes up.
It's a word that some think they hear...

You can't blame Gillard for oppositions toxic behaviour.
It's not her fault Tony Abbott is the biggest sore loser this country has ever seen.

Family benefit payments should be stopped totally, just as the Single Parent Pension should cease to exist.
You have kids, you look after them out of YOUR pockets, not be expecting the working taxpayer to prop you up.
