There's a place called Orient Express that we order from, and another called Party Central, we buy in bulk and anything that doesnt go out at halloween goes into the stockings the kids get at church. I love the idea of little bags of mixed items. But then again, I'm a sucker for 'stuff'. LOL
I've never seen anyone decorate their house or property for Halloween....let alone play scary movie music. No one goes to that much trouble here. It would be fair to say there's a strong Anti-Halloween sentiment and shops like Coles, Woolies and Spotlight get a fair amount ot flak for selling Halloween stuff from many regular customers. It's either seen as something American influenced (ie not Australian) or people just can't be bothered.
When I was a kid I found Halloween as featured on American TV shows was quite fascinating, but it never bothered me that it wasn't done in Oz. Ditto Valentine's Day. That was also a non-event when I was growing up. I remember when I was a teenager a new girl from Scotland joined my school and February came around and she asked us what we would be doing for Valentine's Day. All she got was a group of blank faces....and the question "What's Valentine's Day?" She was appalled. 🙂 The more she tried to explain it the more puzzled we all were. Mind you, it was a girls only school. LOL
