I'm taking it you are a crossing supervisor.
My sis in law did that work for many years & it was very hard because her husband was on an invalid pension (disabled after car accident), so for every dollar she earned, she effectively lost about 50c in tax as the pension went down.
And this is where I think things probably need a shake up. If anyone is living wholly on $39k or less, then (in my opinion) they should be paying minimal tax and may need help in other ways-perhaps some rent subsidy etc
But where government falls down in some areas is in giving people incentive to earn more. They sometimes make it not worthwhile to do a bit of work if on a pension etc
You'll find that a lot of work that involves children is not usually highly paid. Think child care worker, teacher aide etc.

I was under the impression there is amount you can earn before if affects your pension
I agree, child care workers are paid very poorly, given the training and responsibility they have each day

I have to drive 720 k a week if I do all ten hours.
I then lose money from my unemployment allowance.
I get thirty dollars more per week after paying a hundred dollars for fuel.
Ten hours work for thirty dollars.
The costs after fuel mean it costs me money I don't have to work.
I wasn't allowed to refuse the job.
It's against the rules, with financial punishment.
I would have lost my allowance for twelve weeks.
Thankfully I have only had to do three hours this year.
Last year I had to work a whole term and had to go without one meal a day.
Really bad for a diabetic as myself.
My Employment Consultant at my job network member.
Made platitudes about how hard it must have been on me but only really was concerned that I wasn't doing the required fifteen hours per week.
So I also had to apply for jobs
That costs more money
Your post highlights the major structural problems within our welfare system that have gradually got worse over time instead of better. While there needs to be some checks and balances to ensure only those who need support are recieving it, the punitive measures around recieving the dole and invalid pension have swung too far.
People on welfare are feeling victimised by inflexible compliance systems and independent service providers are only interested in getting their numbers up by placing people in innapropriate jobs. Our job search networks never should have been privatised.
SUPRISE ........

If My memory is correct, previous tax relief measures have been target at Low and High income earners, with no relief for the majority, middle income earners. For far too long the middle income earners have recieved nothing, someone is always going to be left out unfortunately.

govts, liberal ones in particular use tax cuts as a vote gaining weapon.
vote for me and i'll see you get a juicy tax cut and you can take that to the bank!
but the truth is they have their fingers crossed behind their backs.
after getting voted in the excuses come out, usually its labors fault.
i have a better idea, lets just make sure everyone get a payment every fornight they can live on.
pensioners, the unemployed, the disabled and workers.
for workers they should get a fair wage and employers can increase it as they feel fit.
dont pay a good wage and your workers will not be happy workers.
unhappy workers dont do good work.
i'm really not sure why anyone needs a tax cut, i can think of some who need to get an increase.
if a group needs more take home cash, give em a payrise?
payrise = more tax
more tax means more money to spend on the citizens.
