Red Wine Drinkers?

Are there any around??

A relative has a birthday coming up, and I have no clue for a gift, I was thinking of a nice bottle of red (if such a thing exists *shudder*) between $30-$50. Any suggestions??

Ill need as much information as you can give me, I have no idea on wine that isnt a $4-$15 bottle of Moscato. LOL.

I think Port may be an option too, if anyone has any suggestions on that.

TIA Smiley Happy

Re: Red Wine Drinkers?

Annies Lane is good.

Yellow tail is good and cheap

McGuigans is ok too.

Currently my favourite is Wyndham Bin555 Shiraz.

Brown Brothers port tawny is another favourite.

Lic, look for a bottle that has round medallion award labels on them. The labels are about the size of a 5 cent piece, and will be gold, silver, bronze. If the wine has won awards and has these labels then it should be a wgood wine.

Re: Red Wine Drinkers?

I hate to suggest it ... but I'd think about a voucher from a good bottle shop (not a chain). Then the recipient can have the pleasure of choosing the wine as well as drinking it. For a wine buff, usually the browsing and considering is almost as good as the consumption.

Or, what about one of those single bottle wine racks? Some of them make great coffee table ornaments.

if you're not sure what he likes maybe

make a gift wine basket with a couple

of bottles, cheese, crackers etc.

Sorry, no help here.  I bought someone an award winning bottle

of something or other red - Majella I remember,    Cost $35

I noticed they used it for cooking!!

But I'll crawl over everybody else to share that Moscato with you

Re: Red Wine Drinkers?

Lis, one of the best reds that I drank while I was in WA was Kerfuffle. A shame it isn't sold locally over here.

Re: Red Wine Drinkers?

Hi Lis, I know you live close to where I used to, so...

Woolies bottle shop in Warnbro have a fantastic red that is hard to get hold of - The Yearling by Rymill

or Rosemount diamond series

or Jamiesons Run series

All of the above are a bit less than $20 but they are great wines.  I love good wine, but not necessarily expensive wine - and all of the above, especially the first mentioned, are ripper.   Every time Ray Jordan the wine critic in The West Australian does a run down of good wines for a reasonable/cheap price, we make a point of going down the list - all three mentioned were somewhere up the top of the last one re good wine/value for money.

Cheers, Lynda
