Re: Seniors hour

So now it's Scott Morrison's fault that people are greedy and irrational? And if he does take measures to stop it (they'll have to be severe in order to work) you'll say he's created a police state! He can't win where you're concerned, no matter what he does.

One would hope that if an 80 yo walked in without a card they'd be sensible enough to let them in.

How about 77 years old.

There are a lot of 70+ year olds who do not have government cards of any description but they still need to access the shops.

If age is going to be a criteria then accept any legitimate proof of age document otherwise it is discrimination.

And what about helper shoppers , those younger who have been tasked to shop for the elder person.

They can fend for themselves in the aisles.

Older weaker people are being pushed aside by the panic merchants.

Not easy to do if they are also trying to look after the person they are caring for as well

Aw c'mon.  I was thinking along the lines of someone who was doing the shopping for the elderly person left at home.

But you knew that.

Actually I didnt, so never presume to "think" you know what I ( or other peoole ) mean   .......

I think maybe many people have been considering how long quarantine has been in Wuhan and so are over time stockpiling if similar happens here - the thinking likely  is that if such long time quarantine does not eventuate - what does it matter ? , the long life food and consumables would have been used anyhow

Of course to bad about those who have been left lacking.

However i have been surprised of the legal looting - such a large proprtion of society already lives a life style not far different from that of quaratine ....

The PM Scomo said this morning to

JUST STOP IT! (about hoarding)

so everyone will stop now.

We braved Aldi this morning, they didnt open until 9.30am so they could get the shop re stocked.   It was a tad chaotic but everyone was polite and respectful of  others. They were really well stocked, not much missing at all, so  we are now stocked up with everything we need for over a month.

That's good to hear.   Here in a largish town on coastal NSW our shopping Centre has an Aldi, Woolies and IGA.  Apart from the obvious like sanitizers, loo paper, generic things,  and Specials I've been finding they remain pretty well stocked.  So I'm having to pay a bit more for what I want but still can get it and really  the extra cost doesn't amount to much.

Haven't been there for a couple of days though so might find things have changed.

Spoiler
I'm not minimising this for families who struggle as a few cents more here and there is hard for them, so I realize I'm lucky.

Aldi was stacked to rafters with loo paper, bread, pasta, hand soap, sanity products, baby wipes etc. also plenty of meat n fresh/frozen f n v  ......   NO bleach or disinfectant and a few other other things missing but not much.

Ducked into Coles to PU a cpl of things they had on special and it was a totally different story, it looked like a bomb had gone through it.   Dunno re WW 'cause I didnt go in there

Our local IGA is wayyyy over the top with their prices, its much dearer than the IGA in Hamilton

I dont want to go near the shops for a month or so, hence the big stock up, thank goodness for freezers

Same here the IGA store had plenty of meat including mince but at nearly double the price of the Woolies store

which was totally cleaned out of mince and had very little of any other meat left.

Toilet rolls, pasta, frozen veg, rice and rice/pasta quick meals in packets were gone in both stores.

Not a single egg in Woolies so they would've even taken the ones that had broken ones in it.

The IGA always has one sliced ham on special except for today and no specials catalogues.

Woolies in VIC have CANCELLED all online delivery and click and collect orders until further notice.  I got the message last night and confirmed it with Woolies customer service this morning.  No exceptions.

Cancelled a helpful service ? upon what grounds ?

I've gathered it's because it's likely a lot of the items ordered will be out of stock.

Woolies and Coles pack online orders from the local supermarkets, not warehouses.

I've also read that demand for delivery has escalated to such an extent that they don't have enough vans to handle it.

So we are failing in meeting changing demands - changing demands that could even improve profitability and employ more people . Interesting.

Not sure why Aldi was so well stocked, I am thinking they musta had a delivery yesterday and didnt open until their shelves  were fully re stocked. It might be a  different story in there tomorrow. The meat section was very well stocked and people gathering up armfuls ( sp ). I didnt check the egg section, so I dunno what was happening there. I did notice there was heaps of bread, muffins, cakes etc.

Our IGA has  a specials catalogue each week and also a market day every few week, I noticed they have one tomorrow. but I dont need to buy anything.

From what I saw online, bus loads of people are now invading country towns and buying up big  ...... Not that's VERY selfish imo
