The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

The Death Penalty, as a deterrent.

As there seems to be widely differing views on this subject it may be an idea to discuss it here instead of in the other thread involving real people..

Are you in favour of the Death Penalty or do you oppose it.

If you are in favour , in which circumstances should it be imposed.

If you are not in favour, are there any exceptions to your opposition?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

So it 's callous to be for the death penalty for those that callously... wait...not just callously but viciously, murder a  child, or rape and murder a young woman, or an old man for his posessions, or enrich themselves by making an blithering idiot out of other ppls children through illicit drugs.

Hmmm. methinks you need a reality check ms pepe.

Re: The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

I can think of a few cases where the death penalty should have applied.

1. The Russell St bomber in Melbourne

2. The Hoddle St shooter

3. The Port Arthur mass killer

4. The NCA bombing killer in Adelaide

5. Bega school girl killers

6. The Snowtown killers

But, I worry about mistakes in particular sentencing the wrong person to death. I only agree with the death penalty where the crime is serious and there is no doubt about the conviction. I know 99.9% of police uphold the law and tell the truth but what about the 0.1% that are corrupt? This is why I say, the evidence has to be rock solid with no doubt.

This raises other questions.

Should Australia have a death penalty for corrupt police officers that fabricate evidence like Singapore do?

You too may have a change of mind later on in the thread, but I notice you avoided answering the question.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
