The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

The Death Penalty, as a deterrent.

As there seems to be widely differing views on this subject it may be an idea to discuss it here instead of in the other thread involving real people..

Are you in favour of the Death Penalty or do you oppose it.

If you are in favour , in which circumstances should it be imposed.

If you are not in favour, are there any exceptions to your opposition?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Joe as I said before if the death penalty was a deterrent people in some states Us and countries that have the death penalty would have nil murders.

So the death penalty does not put people of Killing, Raping or drug smuggling

Idle, believing and adhering to any ideology, belief, loyalty or love on an unconditional basis unwise. no doubt that you and most people have seen evidence of that.

Did you actually mean to say that unconditional love is unwise or was it another of those statements we are supposed to interpret in some undefined context?

I love my children unconditionally. I  have not always agreed with their decisions and life choices, occasionally I have found it hard to like them very much and I would never seek to excuse them should  they committed a crime, but nothing could ever stop me loving them. Unconditional love is not 'fluffy bunny' stuff,  it may  cause any amount of grief and heartache, but I doubt if any mother would ever call it unwise.

Ele I agree, I love my children, some times dont like the things they do, but that does not stop you loving that baby you held in your arms.

Children who are taught right from wrong still go astray, you cant blame the parents, children grow up and choose their own road and it may not be your road.

Re: The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

I think the death penalty  will deter if

*people believe it is a real possibility for them

*they are considering an act, and they have a fear of death or dying.

Personally, I think that  life in prison, never to be released would be a worse punishment.

I think when faced with your own mortality , for a lot of people  life is always the referred option. If you're alive there's always hope of something better.

Plenty of hot heads who commit heinious crimes (e.g.murders) in a rage, who don't consider anything before commiting the crime.

There will be some also, who think they can commit a crime and not get caught.
