Seriously so sick of brand new stuff breaking down because its inferior quality to years gone by. I made the mistake of buying a well known brand name HE top loader, huge mistake. It's never washed well and not even two years old takes 2 hours, sometimes longer to do a load, skips washing sometimes and spinning other times. Worst of all I get a better result if I hand wash 'sigh'. Maybe I should get the stick out and start beating the washing lol!!!! Anyway got a repair man out and it won't even do a diagnostic, gets stuck on cycles and even if the power on the machine is turned off still senses for quite a while after. The only way to reset is take the plug out of the power point for an extended time.
This machine is supposed to be middle to higher end and was not cheap. I trusted its name brand to find it is no longer made in the country it once was, but in china. I also made the mistake of trusting a brand name I've had for years and not researching. I recently did some research and it was extremely depressing, worst machine I have ever heard of with thousands of complaints.
So why do they get away with selling this rubbish? Vent over, I feel better you probably don't lol!

Thanks sprinkle, at least I am comforted that others will learn from my mistake 🙂 I'll let you know what happens and you never know I might end up with the one machine out of a million of the things that actually works!!! LOL

I would go for the front loader as a replacement and put it up on a bench or table (you can buy proper units with a drawer in for the purpose). Far less bending than even a top loader (which you have to bend into to get the washing out).

Bella, if you could speak to someone higher in the company you just might get a refund as perhaps there will be a change of hierarchy and/or some sort of re-shuffling or new managers coming in which may make it a different ball game where you're concerned. It's worth keeping at them. You never know. The saying "a squeaky wheel gets the most grease" springs to my mind here. The new restructure or whatever could work in your favour. They may decide it would be worth giving you a refund as a good public relations gesture. In any event all the best with it.

I have always had a Front Loader and as I am getting a bit older I recently got a new machine and had it put on a cabinet that supports the machine. It has a drawer underneath that holds all your powders etc. I don't have to bend at all.

OH was considering buiding a shelf for me but was told not to as the vibration can damage the machine. But maybe if he builds it in such a way that its well supported? I'll do some research thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

Good Guys have the cabinets - that's what they are designed for so the vibrations wouldn't be a problem

Bella, you are so right. I have a Simpson washer that I bought for a steal off the Good Guys three years ago and it is excellent (so long as I keep the water level on "auto sense" and press the Normal/Heavy button not Heavy wash, otherwise it stalls). I went for a 9kilo top loader that was not water efficient, in that it uses more water than any other washer on the market, that's what I wanted. I hate those front loaders that use two drops of water to clean, the more water, the better.
I hasten to add, this is the only appliance I have bought that I have never had problems with. I do have a 60 inch LG plasma that seems to work okay but it's less than two years old, so we shall see. Buying anything today without an extended warranty, is playing Russian roulett IMO.
Slightly off topic, but I also think the standard in food has gone down, particularly in the last 7 years. Perhaps it's the increased population and farming methods that have led to the change but I feel the taste of food isn't quite right - less fresh, more chemicals. Even old faithful brands like Cadbury chocolate taste blah compared to a decade ago. When I eat some foods, I actually feel like I'm being poisoned and cafe, restuarants are no better. I did have a great Nasi Goreng in a cheapo takeaway in Mornington several months ago. My first good meal in a restauarant in 3 years, and that includes pricey joints. Good food 100 years ago must have tasted fantastic.

I had a whirlpool front loader that just died one day and it was only about 6 years old. I spent weeks negotiating with whirlpool and finally they ended up agreeing to replace it and I paid an extra few hundred dollrs to get the bigger model.
Their website claimed that washing machines shgould last something like 12 - 15 years, it was after I brought that up that they finally agreed to replace it despite it being out of warranty.
The replacement one was almost worse than the first though. Leaked from the day I got it! When that one eventualy turned up its toes I bought a Fisher and Paykel top loader, its been great!

Good on you Punch, I think its great when consumers take steps to make them responsible for their products. Well it seems that they are going to give me a refund, I have some saved up but I am still a few hundred short of a speedqueen. My quote was 1950 plus about 150 delivery. I could buy a smart drive for 6 - 700 or an LG WT R10686 for about 1200 - Did someone say they were made in China too? I know if I hand wash for a couple of weeks (perish the thought I've been doing that long enough) I could manage it. I'm a bit torn really seems like such a lot of money.
