quiting smoking

Have been a 20 pack a day smoker

For nearly 40 years and stopped cold turkey

On Monday

So have made it 4 days without a smoke

Feel like I am going crazy

And don't want to go near a shop for a while

Until I feel safe to avoid the impulse to buy

A packet

Not easy that's for sure

Re: quiting smoking

I WAS doing really well until I picked up my ct scan results yesterday.......after reading them, first thing I did when I got home from town was......yep, started smoking !!!

I don't know how the weekend will go but I'll get back into reading the book Sunday, just a bit upset atm to even think about what I'm doing to myself.

I can't believe my surgeon didn't talk to me face to face about this, his assistant just called me to say come in and collect them and a referral to a lung specialist.  Reading the report (and I don't know what some of it means) but apart from the lung lining thickening stuff it also mentions emphesema......can't remember the exact wording atm but obvioulsy means I have emphesema and some other stuff.

I'll get my head around it all and post when I've settled down a bit.

Hope all is going well for you Opmania.

Re: quiting smoking

Don't despair soulart, you've only lapsed a little right at the beginning of your journey ... you can start again and each time, you will get stronger.

It will take time to get your head and body around this, won't all happen in a few seconds, but you can do it, you just have to be ready ....  Heart

Re: quiting smoking

Same thing happened to me, Soul

I was told to come in and pick up the x-ray and was then told

I have emphysema.   Didn't want to believe it,  so I asked for a

CT scan which confirmed it.  I had been a non-smoker for

3 years at that stage.

When you calm down, you wil be ok - just a smoking set-back, that's all

Intellectually, you know that smoking with emphysema will only

do more harm.

You must have some trouble breathing.

Your quality of life will improve by giving it away.

Tomorrow is another day.

You can and will do it - we have faith in you

Thanks Tas and Stawka, I have been having trouble with my breathing for about 6 months.....put it down to the harvesting.

I'm going to go and do something to keep me occupied for awhile.....catch up later xx

Re: quiting smoking

Hi soul art

Sorry to hear the bad news

About your health

More reason to give up smoking

For as soon as you stop you can

 Be sure things will improve

Try again but try not to wait too

Long before you do

I have spoken to people who have

Stopped for years and say they feel

Like a smoke everyday

Its like alcoholism

You force yourself to stop for

The sake of your family or health

Still want a drink but you know if

You have one is back to square

One

 my ex was an alcoholic

And chain smoker

Died about 8 months ago

Aged 62

Re: quiting smoking

I'm sorry too Soulart.  Give yourself time to take it all in and then maybe it will give you even more determination.  It was such rotten timing.  In the early days you really don't want any major upsets.

You don't need any pressure right now but soon you will be ready to give it another go.

Re: quiting smoking

Hi nics
Still not smoking
Lost count of the days now
Still think about it but determined not to
smoke again so will just have to
Suffer the consequences
Just hope I haven't left it to late and get emphysema
In a couple of years
That would really suck
Or lung cancer
Thanks again for all supporters
It would be great if someone else could
Take up this thread and put it to good use
No time like now to stop smoking
