hi people, have been in contact with a seller for car found on the trading post site. Deal is good, but is it too good? Apparently the owner just moved to uk after divorce. Car is meant to be at transport company in Aust, revs check confirmed what it is and where its registered.
My problem is, the owners email tells me that she has a contract with ebay to sell the car through them... then says...
deal will go like this (remember Ive never used ebay for more than small stuff).
1, i give her my details and shipping address
2, she informs ebay and ebay sends me an invoice for amount payable
3, i pay ebay and the car is "shipped" to me at no cost to me
4, i have 5 days to have the car inspected and decide whether i want it.
5, if i want it ebay pays her, if i dont, she sends for the car, ebay refunds my money and thats the end of that......

Is this a SCAM? Or is this a legitimate way for difficult situation sales to be managed by ebay????

I am comunicating with seller who has just divorced and is selling her 2001 Patrol wagon for $7,200 and she will pay freight. Wow am I lucky, this has to be $10 grand less than RRP. Poor girl has gone to live in Rome (Italy no less) to be with her parents. This car was advertised on Carpoint site and I emailed seller when the phone number supplied was wrong and some poor elderly person had answered hundreds of calls about something she new nothing about. Hang on I've just tried to find it on Carpoint site. not their?,H'MM must have taken it off the market so she could sell it to me,"beaudy". Oh and look at that her email address is emma4kiss@gmail.com or is that .con? no .com is right. She must sell kisses on the internet, poor girl having to sell kisses to keep food on the table. Anyhow this poor girl just sent me an email that said the car is in NSW ready to be shipped and she can send it to me and I will be able to check it out for 5 days before she recieves any money, apparently ebay organises this and holds my money untill I ok it. This is great! Ebay is a site I trust.
Now all I have to do is wait for ebay to contact me.I think I should offer her more than what she is asking for the car, it's the fair thing to do.

Some scams do not involve the actual sale, some just farm your personal details and email address and then sell them on, Be carefull with any communication and run your virus/keystroke logger scans.

I notice that these posts are from 2010 - this lady is still telling the same story now....!!!! Definately a scam!

It's not a dead thread at all.

The information is still helpful and valid.

The old Motors Board always moved along just fine with a few regulars advising about Scams and bumping old threads to help other members.

I suggest if some of the new posters don't like it, then don't read it and don't post on it.

We'll I've only had a wee browse here and there lately in this forum but thought this thread was interesting. This would shout scam to me but useful to be reminded of the cunning ways of scammers and to beef up my ID and virus protection.

Very scary actually to hear how many are on ebay now.
