AustPost now has tracking on everything- does PayPal accept it?

AP still 'offer' a signature-required 'service' for $2.95, but will now PP accept the standard tracking as it pertains to Seller Protection?

I hope so, this would save a packet and increase sales. I for one would certainly start listing a heck of a lot more.

Re: AustPost now has tracking on everything- does PayPal accept it?

You really are hung up on the "value of an item rubbish". When we recently sold some items (total value less than $10) which we listed up front with the option of registered or regular post the buyer chose regular post, paid by paypal, received the items then gave negative feedback for excessive post cost. They choose and we still get burnt.

It is paypal policy that items paid through paypal must be sent by registered post for seller protection but when the buyers CHOOSE regular post then that is THEIR choice whether it is $10 or $1000 so if the buyers then charge back who is responsible?

We have refused paypal payments when some buyers try this and now we get proof of purchase on ALL posted items. It may take longer and be more work but as good sellers we have had many very poor dealings with dishonest buyers.

Some items may not have a high monetary value but will be worth lots to a collector which is often the case with myself and I will pay for premium postage even if I haven't paid a premium for the item.

If the AP lodgement receipt forms are used/filled out correctly then it will have the tracking number, persons name, persons complete address and any extra cover purchased.

Senders details are at the top and date at bottom as well as Post Office post mark which shows the date items sent.

This is enough for satisfying paypals requirements for proof of postage, what happens then is NOT the responsabilty of the sender.

Yes, I am "hung" up on value of an item.

To contribute to a safe trading place, and build the perception of a safe trading place, it is important for sellers to be proactive and responsible, even when they think their buyers may not be.  It builds buyer confidence, which in turn creates more sales for us all.

Sellers promoting self interest only on discussion boards  does not build buyer confidence.

I too employ measures to send by most appropriate post method for value since I had a few missing parcels earlier this year.  This applies, regardless of post service and price of post in my listings - as I like to remain competitive on post price.   Well worth a relatively small investment ๐Ÿ™‚ as you seem to be aware.

Offering a choice to buyers of post services, and including a safer service that provides appropriate proof of post and compensation level if it lost by AP is great.

It means that buyer and paypal have access to very transparent, accurate proof of post to an addressee.  It is a shame that there are other sellers of relatively valuable goods that don't provide either the choices you do, or send via appropriate method in absence of offering choice, as I do.

actually offering a choice of post makes the buyer respossible for their actions. The sellers terms and conditions corrtectly set avail the buyer of the point of title change and who actually owns the item if it is lost in the mail.

like these terms and conditions of australian companies that sell on the internet and paid a  prertty penny so that their terms and conditions would stand up under the scrutiny of a small claims tribunal or a court.

By offering the buyer choice, recommending insurance, defining the time that the title changes and availing the buyer of the risk the seller has met and exceeded the deemed delivered terms of the SOGA.

Distance selling is not new. Mail order selling has been going on since before the internet was connected and the same legal conventions apply ie..

Building a perception does not make  trading safe.. perceived safety is in fact a dangerous thing

It is more important that all buyers understand that not all sellers are proactive and responsible and that buyers need to be responsible for their decisions by reviewing and understanding the terms and conditions of a sale rather than being trained to ignore them

Buyer confidence is built upon good purchasing experiences irrespective of how some sellers actually act.

It is a misnomer to believe that if all sellers did the "right thing" then there would be more sales for all of us when in fact that  condition would bring the opposite.... less sales becasue of increased competition

... Carp sellers eventually get found out via feedback or dsr stars.. that is when the good sellers prosper

Re: AustPost now has tracking on everything- does PayPal accept it?

Such confidence in the DSR and feedback system....mmm

Don't have the same level of confidence myself for buyer feedback or seller feedback and ratings.

My perception is partially based on lots of posts on these boards from buyers that don't check feedback and wouldn't know what a DSR was if they feel over it, until they get stung. Also those from traders just seeking to "cover themselves" without any regard for their buyers.

IMO consumer confidence is important - full stop

As for the history lesson on internet trading - thanks

You would be aware too, that a number of our legislative frameworks particularly the SoG Acts are seriously out of date and a decade behind in terms of internet trading - its an area that is subject of much analysis and lamenting.

Re: AustPost now has tracking on everything- does PayPal accept it?

Just went to the PO and it turns out that registered mail no longer includes ANY cover in the event of loss or theft! If we want insurance, and we usually do, then it's an extra $1.50 (from zero to $100 values) ON TOP of the registered cost of $3.20 per package. And of course, postage itself has substantially gone up across the board.

But we do get the 'free' tracking which is completely meaningless and provides no protection against PayPal, so that's something.

AustPost just keeps getting 'better'....

'Registered post letters still have compensation of up to $100.'

Does that include large 'letters', such as rare comics?

Yes, compensation includes large letters and their contents (excluding currency) up to $100, and you can still purchase extra cover for goods over this value.
