Hi,
We have just read the changes that are coming in September 2012 regarding Basic Store Subscriptions (rising from $24.95 to $49.95)
Our sales on ebay have reduced so much over the last year or so that doubling our store subscription really isn't an option (most of our sales come though our website). My question is, if we close our store and take advantage of the 30 free listings per month, will we have to relist the stock we have in there now? Or will it appear in our Unsold folder and we can just relist it from there? Also, is there anything we'll miss out on by not having a store other than Good Till Cancelled listings?
Any help would be appreciated.

My challenge to you forum_junkie is this -
Post just one negative comment about e-bay or it's charges, fees and changes and I will leave this forum forever, happy and satisfied, guarnteed.
Let's face it, there must be at least one thing they do that is bad, unfair, unjust, wrong, overpriced or just plain biased against the seller or even the lister?
So, are you up to the chanllenge?
I don't know pj at all, and no doubt there are a lot of things she dislikes, disagree's with, but unlike most of us who have a knee jerk reaction and start to squeak on forums, (and I include myself in this) she gets on with it, grows with the times, and as she said, sticks with it. I would also imagine pj is smart enough to know that if you start 'bad mouthing eBay policy's, terms and such like you can get a slap for it. Not sure what your comment has to do with the OP BTW

Just closed our store
We sold to break even with overstocked items. It was professional look & list. Only had four continuous items.
!) Fess are too much ( upcoming $50/month )
2) List with free postage and get charged fees on your postage costs x 3 ( listing fee / selling fee / paypal fee on your postage expense ! ) Super triple dip for eBay on your posatge alone.
3) Businessin AU has to pay GST & TAX on sales > No claim GST for eBay.
4) IMPOSSIBLE to compete in Australia with our postge costs , compared to China ETC , as WE PAY $$ FOR SUBSIDY IN OUR POSTAGE COSTS ( AU ) TO COVER POSTAGE COMING INTO THE COUNTRY. We pay more here to cover cost of delivering all imported items under $1000.
Small sellers on ebay and start ups are doomed in AU.
Sorry for the reality check. - martin.

Couldn't have put it better myself koala.
Of course there are things about ebay I don't like but as I am not a shareholder it is not up to me how ebay run their site.
As far as I am concerned I have no more right to tell ebay how they should do things than I have to tell my local shopping centre which stores they should lease to, how much they should charge in rent or what those shops should be allowed to sell. If I wanted to open a store there I would have to pay what they wanted and sell what I was allowed to under my contract.
Does it never occur to some of the detractors that buyers also read these boards and the attitude of some sellers who bag ebay at every turn cannot engender confidence in buying from any sellers and specifically from those who are ranting and raving about everything ebay does.

Me too koko...I am glad this has happened...the fee hike along with all the other rubbish like best match, yada yada you get the drift, over the past 4 years.
So yay, only two weeks to go....exciting isnt it??
Spread the wings..copy those listings and move them out. I've been hunting the internet for days gleaning applications, new software, hunting and finding.
And, like another poster here said...better off waiting for sales, slowly, elsewhere than being unhappy here, paying high fees.
With sales at least 75 percent less than they once were & fees doubled. Makes sense to go where there are lots of vintage queens. e... hand made & vintage only. Fabulous, like minded souls. artisans, artists & vintage tragics. Goodie.
My third and last time to ditch this place. This time, I have more knowledge of the internet, more html skills and know way more about marketing and making websites..so all good....a negative turns into a positive...I usually rely on ebay cash to get me through rough patches.
Well, I had to quit smoking this month, no sales for days on end. Then it was 12 dollars or whatever. My prices are lower than have ever been, to make up for increasing postage...global economy etc.
So this is all good, two positive things....moving on, putting my skills to use and quitting smoking....say, thanks a bunch ebay....:-x:-x:-x]:) I cut my first teeth here....awww, I feel like Newman....

hi sb...the OP of this thread. Not sure if anyone answered you yet about closing the store and what happens to listings...
"Or will it appear in our Unsold folder and we can just relist it from there? Also, is there anything we'll miss out on by not having a store other than Good Till Cancelled listings?"
I am pretty sure the listings disappear. Unless, you use turbolister and have them stored in there. Close the shop, listings go...somebody correct me if I'm wrong, thanks...jilly

I closed my store due to the Fee increase and all my listings returned to my Unsold Items folder and I was able to re-list them again no problems. Never used Turbo Lister as I am on a Mac and its not compatible.
I also use Auctiva for listing with which gives me great pictures and other benefits all for only $9.95/month. I was able to to keep my Store Name ID and my feedback which is presently small as I started with a new ID when I opened the Store and was not allowed to transfer my feedback from previous ID.
Hope that helps.

The thing is, eBay.com.au actually admit that they make mistakes in their policies. For example:
"This increase has become necessary as the fee changes made earlier this year (most of which were reductions), incentivised more sellers than expected"
Their entire 'strategy' is nothing more than trial and error, with periodic massive swings to 'correct' their earlier blunders.
I guess now I can sit back and wait until one of their apologists shill dobs me in for not mindlessly agreeing 100% with everything they do here.
On the other hand, if eBay.com.au wants GOOD strategic advice from a marketing savvy buyer/seller of many years standing, get in touch.
