EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

Just received eBay's latest assistance to sellers *Ebay's NEW HEALTH CHECK* .

This may be old news but they are moving timed BUY IT NOW and will move all my listings to GOOD TIL CANCELLED. Well that is not what I want but then again we have no say.

This does not suit me for many reasons with something new I like to use 10 days as an option. The rest are 30 day listings which gives me the option to adjust the listings if they are not attracting buyers or watches. I will sometimes group them with other items etc.

I find the 30 day listings far more manageable for my business needs.

So if all fixed listings are good til cancelled I dare say the next step will be for those with ebay stores will be reduced with the amount of fixed listings in their subscription.

Good til cancelled also means there will be a hell of a lot of old stock on there for years or if I remember correctly they were bringing in limited time for listings.

I have had my vent but OH SO FRUSTRATING makes me wonder why I am doing this.

I did a quick calculation.  You need sales of about $50k per month before the move to anchor status is justified

Two featured stores are much better value than one anchor store, unless you sell heaps and heaps.

I wouldn't be too hasty with anything in case it really is true that listing will only be charged when they start and never again.  That'd pretty much mean unlimited listings over time.  I'll believe that when I see it!  Then again, they've been pretty generous with free listings lately so anything's possible.  All those free listings were probably to gauge whether extra listings meant extra sales/fees.  I saw an ebay ad on TV tonight so perhaps they're going to do lots of advertising.

I just checked that the link works

Mmmm - I dont know how you found that link, as I tried to find out store info from the site map and this is what I got (and I've just tried it again now)

Even after inputting my own data (on the left), nothing shows up in the table on the right.

I  don't often use the site map.

It's easier to type what I'm looking for into here -

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

I thought I could perhaps get around the new GTC that would suit me -  But I was so wrong!!!

Thought I will list as an auction with a little below my minimum required price and in addition have a buy it now for a little over my desired price.

Has the buy it now on an auction listing always been a minimum of 30% more than the auction starting price. As it is now.

There goes that theory as I though this would be a way of controlling some of my stock and being able to list when I desired with no automatic roll over.

I know I can always end the items but still preferred the previous policy.

AND YES I STILL THINK EBAY IS SERIOUSLY SICK (as I started the thread) and feel even more so that this is a very BACKWARD step or maybe TWO OR MORE steps !!!!

It is very obvious that sellers are not in favour with this forced change.

The change with BIN prices needing to be at least 30% more than the auction start came in a couple of years ago, from memory.

I think there's probably more sellers who don't care about this change than those who do - a significant portion would be completely unaffected by it. I've mostly refrained from commenting here because I'm one of the sellers that is unaffected, so I don't really have anything to contribute to the thread topic in general, and I'm certainly not about to suggest that because it doesn't bother me, it shouldn't bother others - if nothing else, eBay's lack of clarity and consistency when it comes to announcing, explaining and implementing these kinds of things is (as always) troubling.

Honestly, I think any listings that weren't on auto-relist should have ended, just like they were selected to when listed, with GTC becoming the only duration if the seller wanted to list them on the site again - it's not up to eBay to decide if something is still available to buy when the original listing duration ends. This would have avoided the involuntary charges, also (which will hopefully be removed or credited soon).

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

The 30% more for BINs has been in force for at least 6 years, probably even longer.

I think the changes make it a lot fairer for those who pay the most fees to ebay.  Those people who sell over 10K and lose the auto relists end up with less listings than those who sell less and therefore pay less fees.  Lots of non-stores have had unlimited listings with no fees for the last 14 months and it's unrealistic to expect ebay to keep giving without expecting anything in return.

If people think they don't get enough sales to justify a store, look at it from ebay's point of view - those sellers don't get enough sales to justify giving them hundreds of free listings for slow selling items that clog up the site.  I personally am tired of looking at the same listings all the time when I search some categories by newly listed, so I think it's great that only auctions can auto relist or be on short durations now, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.  Buyers are being turned off ebay in droves because of the same things constantly relisting but putting everything on GTC will help a lot because many sellers won't bother to make the effort to constantly end and relist.

I don't agree, but what would I know?

WHY has ebay offered almost unlimited free listings and relistings for the last few months? Was someone in authority planning to bring about this dilemma for those of us who took up ebay's promotional offers? That is, for those of us who took up ebay's offer of almost unlimited listings now going to pay the price?

I don't think they 'clog up' the site - what is far far more annoying are the Chinese sellers who 'clog up' the site wth their rubbish.

I have crunched my numbers and it is quite obvious that opening a store in an effort to keep up the same number of listings I currently have is simply not viable. I neither sell enough, nor have sale prices high enough, to warrant spending around 15% of my meagre monthly profit just on store fees.

I can see no alternative but to reduce the number of items I have for sale from 470 to around 45, and hope that I sell at least 5 items per month so that when the monthly rollover happens I don't have to pay a listing fee.

Or I could just give up trying to sell on ebay as it has all just become too hard.

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

I also had a lot of items rolling over. They had auto relists on them.

ebay cancelled the auto relists converting them all to GTC.

They then used up all my free listings across 5 of my accounts 157 free in total, then charged me 1.65 for  each one totaling nearly $140.

I also tried to edit some, with $0.00 showing in the bottom right corner, hit the submit still $0.00 then hit confirm and it all changed to almost $300

I was hysterical and we rang them, thankfully they are going to credit the almost $300

I talked to them again and they are going to credit back the $1.65 on all the acounts. I am waiting for it to show up, so I hope they do it.

I think they know that they have done something illegal.

You cant go into someones account, fiddle around and change things for you financial benefit. That's illegal which ever way you slice it.

They had nobody's consent to relist with listing fees.

If you have been hit with them, then get on to them to get them credited.

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

Luckily we read this thread yesterday, and realised that (contrary to the email we received) our listings wouldn't be changed to GTC without charge.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon editing the 700+ items over our non-store sites to untick the auto-relist box.

Checking this morning, this seems to have worked as listings ending have not been re-listed.

Thanks to everyone who posted about the re-lists as it saved us a lot of money and angst.

I have been stewing over these comments since reading them a couple of hours ago.

>>it's unrealistic to expect ebay to keep giving without expecting anything in return<<.

Oh, so the final value fees that the sellers pay when they make a sale is 'not giving anything in return' to ebay?

>>those sellers don't get enough sales to justify giving them hundreds of free listings for slow selling items that clog up the site<<

You make it sound as though somehow this is the seller's fault.

Who has been offering unlimited free listings (AND 8 free relists) for several months?

Not the sellers, but EBAY.

Of the many infuriating effects this change has made, the one where as recently as last weekend:

promo.jpg

ebay was offering sellers the opportunity to list as many items for free. Which I did - and was able to check the 8 free relists box on each listing as well - and yet when the first 30 days is up, I will have to pay to relist all those items if they haven't sold.

How can ebay do this???? To offer free listing and free relists just 4 days ago, then implement having to pay listing fees if you exceed the 40 per month?

And don't say that ebay told us about this coming change a month ago, because it was all so incredibly vague and badly written it was impossible to understand the implications. And didn't Dave also say something along the lines of those items that had had the free relists checked would be honoured?
